This may be slightly off topic. Hopefully I have it in the right place. I'm wanting to put a TV in a lobby and have it automatically turn on at a certain time in the morning and play an educational video from a USB thumb drive. And then have it shut off in the evening automatically. And repeat of course.
I was down at Fry's Electronics trying this on various TVs. The best I found was the Samsung line. They have a TV on/off timer. And in the settings under the timer you can set what volume will be set at and what input to use. If I select USB and set a volume that works. But it also asks which file I want to autoplay when it starts...but....it only allows me to select images OR .mp3 files. No mp4 or other video shows up as an option.
So if I want to have it turn on and play a song that's great. But it won't work with a video.
Any ideas? I know I could do this by adding a computer or DVD player or whatever but I'd really like to keep this simple.
