PANASONIC Plasma TH-37PX80BA 7 blinks of death

My Panasonic Plasma has the Power Red LED code of 7 flashes.
The manual states it will be the SC (YSUS) (TXNSC1BSUB TNPA4644) Floating Voltage area, and/or SM (SU & SD [buffers on one board]) boards.

I have: disconnected the SM BOARD and powered up - no change,
then disconnected the SC board, both the SC2 (VSUS) & SC20 (Ribbon)- no flashing LED
I have re-connected SC board's SC20 and flashing LED is back
Not certain if this procedure is correct - some info on this site for a different model requires a SC50 jumper shorted after the buffers are disconnected.
I have from ebay a spare SM board, but reluctant to install until I can verify that my disconnection proc is correct.
Not being experienced in TV repair - I haven't done any testing live or know how to bypass the error circuit not wanting to damage other working parts.

So ground (excuse the pun) to a halt - spent hours searching net.

Check the SC board to see if its shorted across the SC2 socket. You can also check SM board for shorted buffer ICs with a meter set to low ohms (200ohm )one lead to the connecting VFG screws (were the SM is joined with the four screw pads to the SC) run the other lead across the ribbon sockets any shorts show faulty buffers. both test should be done with the boards removed from the set

Yes checked already checked sc2 and measured VSUS, but found some info (about a different model) that said if the su sd boards are disconnected then the TV shuts down. based on this I fitted the spare SM from ebay, and the TV works except NOW I have a few groups of black horizontal lines superimposed on a good picture.

Any ideas, suspect could be the spare or the connections, would like to be armed with a cause before stripping it down tomorrow.

Yes it can be the ribbon cables going into the SU/Sd boards. If they are badly seated they cause black bars/lines.

You have not fitted the ribbons in correctly , Turn the set off and leave for a few mins, then adjust the ribbons that line up with the lines showing on the screen. Do Not adjust with power on as this can damage the panel so power off and leave before adjusting

            Hi

Thanks for coming back on that, I was thinking that was probably the cause, this time i will double check before putting the 37 screws back. Will let you know how I got on. Funny how the picture is good.

Worse than it was now, tried about 5 times, thinking some electrical cleaner might be a good idea.

No don't use that. The ribbon cables are not seated correctly.

The brown handle needs to be all the way open. Put the ribbon cable gently into the slot and you will hear a small "click". Thats the edge of the ribbon cable clicking behind the white plastic. Apply a little pressure in the middle and pull the handle down.

Check for copper lines , if you see them then the ribbon cable is badly seated.

                  Hi
Finally a screen clear of black lines
I think, in the end it came down to insertion technique, although I found some spray and cleaned the contacts.

                  So thanks guys.

Good job and don't worry. Even the most experienced tv repair guys are struggling with the ribbon cables...

                      by Alicat
                      Hello,

Stopped by this site trying to fix my parents Panasonic Plasma TV.

                      Model number is TH-50PZ85U

Power comes on and the red power light stays on solid.

Did a few checks like hold the power button on for 60 seconds, hold the - Volume while holding the menu button, no luck, still@ blank grey screen as the screen lights up very vague.

I also hear a few clicks.

I also think my parents said there was a thunderstorm and the TV failed after that.

Section 6 in the service manual talks about power and no screen,...

Panasonic P58V11B 8 and 12 blinks error "fix"
                      by Biruslapio
Bought this TV used not working, panel flashed briefly on power up and it was blinking 8 times, a quick look on SS board revealed a common fault on the 3uF 250V capacitors, C201 to C205 (C1620X in the service manual), the solder joints were all cracked, C201 and C205 pins were darkened and some sparking had occurred on them, C201 was split open and clearly overheated in its last hours, replaced that one and resoldered the others, 8 blinks fixed.

Also the previous owner broke the antenna connector by taking the TV out of the wall mount forgetting to unplug it, I desoldered the tuner...

Panasonic P50VT20B Plasma 12 Blinks, Power Supply or A-Board?
                      by Biruslapio
Hello, I've had this TV for 3 years, 2 years ago it stopped working signaling 12 Blinks, SOUND_SOS according to the service manual.

It has no VSUS or VDAT, and P15V has 1.0V instead, the same 15V goes to A board. F15V is ok and other main voltage rails.

It seems the power supply is defective, since unplugging D20 ribbon cable that goes from D-board to SC-board makes the behavior change, the TV stays on, there's no image nor VSUS, but 15V reads 2.4V, high enough to not trip the SOS 12 blinks, so it stays on, fans do not spin but I left it 2 hours, green led lit up...
