Samsung LN40A500 not turning on

Just picked this tv up today. Power led flashes, every 20 seconds you can hear some kind is start up music or chimes but that is it.

from the screen print on the psu sockets check the voltages please

I had unplugged that to test the voltages.

I have 5.2v on pin 3 which is stb5.1v
They all match what is printed on the board give or take 0.1 or 0.2 v.

BN44-00199A Power supply-Inverter board combo.
Check and see if you do have PS-ON signal from the main board, if you do then check the dcv between the two legs of the main filter cap to see if you have close to 400VDC or not.
Notes: the power supply boards does not have pull-up resistors to do the self test of the power supply.

It just turned on.

Nope. Just left it cycling, every 20 seconds the chimes where going, while I checked the voltages that comptek asked for and after I finished I realized I hadn't heard the chimes.

I turn the screen and its on.

All the voltages on the main connector match.

Shopjimmy has a kit for $20 to fix the main board with these symptoms.

Service on eBay to do it for $40. I can't do these surface mounted things.

Oh yea, the famous C102 problem.

C102 on those board are common failure that causes the TV to power cycling or make squealing sounds through speakers. Just do the search for C102 on Badcaps.

Thank budm, I had just done a search and saw your fix for it. Not sure where you soldered the negative leg to.

You can scrape off the green solder masks to expose the copper pads for soldering the cap's legs to, or remove the old cap so you can use the pads.

Thanks. I sent it out to someone else yesterday afternoon.
I searched on eBay for my model number main board.

I did look at your link but my model isn't listed.
