Cheers there are some cheap 0.5w SMT ones on ebay which have very similar specs and will work fine. I have some on order.

Just kidding! What are your opinions about LED vs CCFL? Personally i would go for CCFL , its a more relaxed image.

Haha have not got the effort to do that I prefer CCFL anything electronic that uses gases to produce light is always alot more reliable. IMO the image on Led backlit Tv's (good ones not Vestel craps) is alot better than even high end CCFL backlit Lcd's but Led Tv's just do not last longer if its not the Leds going pop its the Lcd screen which as you know is unfixable in almost every case.

I mean , before led backlight the lcd tv's used CCFL backlight. For example my Philips ambilight has tubes.

Is it a easy modification to replace the CCFL with LED?

edge-lit are easy and kits are cheap.

backlit are hard, you have to get the spacing between the led's right for focus angle and distance to the defuser or you get light and dark patches.

Just 1 strip with LED , you still need a new diffuser? And also , how can i dimm the led's?

worse than bad cfl - that's a dark line, i mean bright and dark patches like a grid.

led's are dimmed by the led driver board - usually pwm i think.
that's the hard part, you need to get an led driver that has the same dimming control as the cfl invertor.

or just not connct it and run fixed brightness.

It is possible to do, just use some pre-made strips out of smashed Tv's I would say use 4 strips of about 11 leds for a 32" size. But Stj is correct you need to make sure that you get the spacing correct of the Leds if not you get bright patches on the screen which looks horrid.
