anyone ever do this besides me? convert to 3d?

Okay so I got this 64 inch Samsung watered down pn64f5300.

It had a bad power supply. Could not locate one. Finally came across one for a pn64f5500. Guy I purchased it from wanted to sell the power supply with the main board and all the attachments as a package deal so I decided to go for it. Being the usual hacker that I am I decided to install the main board with the power supply. Note that both size model TVs are identical except one is a 2d base version in one is a 3d smart tv. The 3d version has the added network jack. It was covered up by the sticker so I cut the sticker away to allow access for the new jack and also had to do some modification to the metal panel back to allow one more HDMI port in another USB port to be usable. Installed the main board and now the TV is a fully functioning 3d model with smart features. Of course I did my homework before I perform this to make sure there are no model differences between the panels and sustain boards especially revisions.

This version plasma used the same panel and the same power supply in the same sustain boards as the 3d version. I did this before with a Panasonic TC-P50U50 and turned it into a TC-P50UT50. That particular TV required a little more surgery on the back panel cover to allow the 3d board. But it also works perfect. That was hanging in my daughter's bedroom now is she uses it for Netflix. This TV was a 2d barebone version as well.

I just thought it was kind of cool so I share it with you guys just to let you know that as long as the panels are both the same 600 Hertz version and the frames and castings are the same really honestly there's no difference between the two
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

Yep, I've converted a PS51D450 into a PS51D490. It's very easy to 3Dify the Samsung plasmas. The main board and glasses transmitter is the only difference. I had to cut a slot for an ethernet port (although, it's not smart, the ethernet port was just for Freeview HD internet TV.) The main board came with the 3-HDMI plastic so I gained another HDMI port and another USB port too.

Panels are identical, drivers are identical, control board identical.

I sold it for 50% more than a 2D TV.

One unexpected benefit is the 3D mode enabled a higher brightness panel in 2D mode.

Cool. So I'm not alone. That's interesting that you got a brighter panel in 3d mode. Usually when you enable 3d the panel seems to dim

3D mode on this plasma made it very bright, but only by dropping down to 5SF per frame, normally 10SF. That effectively made it a 300Hz per eye panel. Dithering was mad. Yet, it used some clever logic to combine dithering between eye frames to make it look as good as 2D. I wasn't bowled away by 3D though, at least on this panel, too much flicker and barely any additional "depth" to the image.

Someone else also back converted a 3D to 2D.

I could see that if its 3d main board is way too expensive but its 2d counterpart is readily available

I remeber reading a member here replacing a 2D board with a 3D board on a Vizio tv. Due to the high failure rate of the 2D board it was cheaper to upgrade than replace like for like.
