    Panasonic Vierra 50ST30 SOS 7 Blinks

    Hi All

    I've been lurking around a bit to try and solve my Plasma issue and I know there are a lot of threads with varying info, but I wanted to kick start my own in order to not hijack others

    In particular this thread HERE was the closest to my issue but there was no further update.

    So I have the 50in unit and suffers from the 7 blinks SOS and went hunting for the solution. From the various repair manuals, I followed the process of elimination to and seems to have narrowed this down to the SC board.

    I have grabbed my multimeter and buzzed out some of the main components and found the following to have shorts

    Q401, Q402, Q403 are the 30F131 Style TO-263 GT30F131 or Panasonic B1JBDN000004 IGBT TO263

    Q421, Q422, Q423 are the RJP30H2A Silicon N Channel IGBT High Speed Power Switching

    D401 is the 1 X RF1501 Diode RF1501NS3S

    D421 is the 1 X DAF30A Diode for Panasonic Plasma TV

    So I placed an order for the above components, the strange thing is now when search I found some kits on ebay, it showed other items also part of the repair kit for an SC board TNPA 5335 AG problem, some have upto 19 components?

    Some mention these items below as well but I did not measure any shorts or can find then locally to buy.

    1 X COZBZ0001822 IC LINEAR & 1 X Panasonic B1HFPFA00001 OEM Transistor

    When I performed the blink test I followed the flow chart and hence isolated this to the SC board and removed the board for further continuity testing, when i read some of these ebay seller comments it started to test C842 which still connected, if shorted then problem on SC board if not then issue on SU/SD.

    Anyways long story short today I ordered the following parts only and bought my parts from KP components in Canada, so not sure how long they will take to get to Sydney AUS.

    3x 30F131
    3x RJP30H2A
    1x RF1501
    1x DAF30A

    My question is have I only 1/2 diagnosed the issue and that these other components sellers are listing such as the resistors 3 x 7R5 and Q531 - COZBZ0001822 IC LINEAR & IC502 - Panasonic B1HFPFA00001 OEM Transistor could also be affected or damaged and I'm just wasting money as I could pop the new replacements due to me not diagnosing the problem?

    Could it be that the SC board is stuffed as well as the buffer boards?

    What would you guys suggest I check to further confirm my current findings and or test components and order them as well to reduce killing any new parts I install?

    Potentially, If you know 30F131 & RJP30H2 x 3 ea are shorted then you should be able to figure out if those other 2 transistors are shorted and you should be able to measure a few resistors. Have you removed the 30F131 & RJP30H2 yet? If not do so then go back and check those diodes, good chance they will no longer be shorted

    yes, find the training guide which has been uploaded numerous times and there should be a sd/su resistance test. let us know what you find

    I've done one of these and mine buffers were good, had a little surprise at the end though, went 8 blink.

      I am not sure this will work on the ST series but on the U30B sets, you can just remove the shorted IGBTs and power it up. If the ER LED glows dimly and the set doesn't shut down you should be ok from there on in replacing just the SUS IGBTs. However if the LED does not glow this indicates an ER fault so that will also need looking at.

        Yes I checked the others and they seem good, never really thought to measure the resisters however I am not sure which ones these sellers were referring to, but will take a closer look

        Never thought to remove them until I actually got the parts in, just so I don't bugger or get the order wrong :p but it maybe an idea to take them out and measure the rest of the components

        I have the training guide but must have missed the the resistance test, will take another look as it didn't see this mentioned

        Will do and take a look at the link, also as for the PIX these pictures are on my photobucket they are not uploaded here, will reduce if i post up any new ones

        Hi Tom, thanks for chiming in as well!

        OK, I just don't know the risk of removing the IGBT's and potentially frying other stuff, but if I remove them I will certainly do this test.

        Parts have been shipped so I expect to have them next week, I am thinking of buying a 10MHz Single Channel Oscilloscope to aid in the investigations, just wondering if this will help of is the meter enough to diagnose the rest

          Hey TW,

          Had a read of your thread you link, awesome!! funny it didn't come up when I performed a search prior to posting, but fantastic as the same components are coming up shorted on my TNPA 5335, so there could be a good chance the buffer boards are good..Fingers Crossed!!

          I still need to dig up how to perform that resistance test!

          BTW, interesting they the 8 blinks led to another component as you mentioned a RCJ330N25 FET shorted, so I will go and test this as well, shame I didn't see your post earlier, but thank you for highlighting it.

          So seeing that these are the main culprits when these TV's fail are they related to heat failures or is there an actual design flaw?

          I noticed on my board, where the soldering links are there is some corrosion of excess flux, (see above 4th picture) i doubt this was from factory leaving behind all that residue which makes me think these are getting very hot during normal operation

          Would it benefit adding a small fan on those IGBTs or some heatsinks?

          I'm very excited that I am close to getting this repaired, so can't wait for my postman to deliver my FETS!

            I'll have a look and see , maybe that guide did not have a resistance test but I'll work it out because testing them is a must. They do fail on these and if so you;'ll have a hard time finding them or they'll be expensive.

            I'd say heat and bad earths but given mine had 10 000hrs, that's a good innings really. seems pretty standard sooner or later the transistors quit. i guess everything has a lifetime, not much you can do except repair it when it blows

            Mine was purchased broken so who knows what the person before tried, the SS was a surprise.

              there is a procedure in that guide but problem following it is it won't cover all scenarios.

              basically it says check TPSC1 - Vfg for short, if so disconnect SU, stil short, disconnect Sd, still short bad SC but if the Sc and either of those buffers are short you won't know.

              So, I will give you the pins I check at the sd/su. this is with them disconnected from the SC and Vfg is the earth pads on the buffers the bolts attach to sc.

              Here's an image I marked which I've posted previously for the points

              Whenever a buffer is shot I find Vfo is shorted but measure the resistance which will be in Megohms, measure the others as well and post results

                I will have a crack at it over the weekend and test these points as I need to use the dinner table to lay it flat and don't have much time during the week

                The place I grabbed the IGBT's don't carry the RCJ330N25 FET so if mine is gone I will need to purchase from ebay, seems they are from china so not sure if I shoud trust the quality of the FET from there

                    Good News

                    Well my postman delivered a package with the following content



                    I like how the components where packaged



                    So I had the house to myself and I began the journey of pulling out the suspect items

                    First up was the 3x RJP30H2A Silicon N Channel IGBT High Speed Power Switching, all three came back as shorted (blown)



                    Now added in the new ones one by one using my blu tack method to hold then in place while I solder them in



                    Next I proceeded to the cut the legs of each of the D401 the RF1501 Diode RF1501NS3S Q401, Q402, Q403 are the IGBT's and with each component I made a cut I checked again for shorts and found once Q401 the 30F131 Style TO-263 / Panasonic B1JBDN000004 IGBT was the cause of D401, Q402, Q403 & D421 appearing as shorted

                    You can see the culprit with my pacer pointing to it in the below picture once it's legs were cut all other shorts cleared



                    Once I replaced this failed component the others were testing fine. After checking my work and cleaning up any solder solvent, I perform the checks and I have a solid green LED and the screen turns on

                    Put the cover and screws all back in there place and plugged in a source for the TV and we have pictures





                    Has been on since and the kids are now watching a 3D show



                    These were the failed 5 components on the SC board



                    I would like to thank this forum and the supporting members for the guides, support and feedback

                        Funny, I see 4 items, LOL. I used subs for those and cost me $6 to get the SC done.

                        pretty much what I had 3 in one set shorted, and only 1 in the other, diodes good. I suspect my SS was damaged by the guy I got the TV off trying to work it out. You fixed the bolts and cleaned up the pads no doubt and checked the SS, too for loose screws

                            So far so good, but now you made me paranoid!
                            be paranoid. 2011 on they changed them and most would agree are the wrong type used and work loose, causes bad earths, arcing and suspect blow the boards.

                            I found on the metal pads they were ok but on the solder lands they were loose and burnt.
