Samsung TV wrong settings in service menu

    Dear friends, GOOD DAY.

This is virtually my 1st post in this forum and i am happy to write here with you all.

Here is the problem i am facing:

A colleague of mine brought to me a Samsung TV model: LE40A536T1FXXH (from now on called "my tv")
this tv when turned on would display weird colours for example black background was displayed purple. At first and after reading posts on the internet and in this forum i thought that it would be a Tcon board problem (as15-f) so i ordered one on-line from china. In the meanwhile i came across a similar model tv with the same Tcon board. I thought i should swap cards to see what happes. Both cards didnt work on my tv (same display problem) but worked on the other tv. Bad luck huh ? then i thought that there must be something else wrong with my tv's main board. At that time i had the "brilliant" idea to mess with the service menu so with tv on standby i pressed Info + Menu + Mute + Power on the remote and service menu came up. I started messing with the MODEL and stored in memmory a different code that the original thinking that if that doesnt work i could go back and reset it.
Now my tv when powered only displays vertical lines and i can no longer acces the service menu. To make matters worse i dont remember neither the factory setting nor the setting i saved.

On-line i found theese service menu codes

    1) Mute + 1 + 8 + 2 + Power
    2) Display/Info + Menu + Mute + Power (THE ONE USED TO WORK)
    3) Display/Info + P.STD + Mute + Power
    4) P.STD + Help + Sleep + Power
    5) P.STD + Menu + Sleep + Power
    6) Sleep + P.STD + Mute + Power

Number 1, 2 dont work and for 3,4,5,6 buttons p.std, help and sleep are not present on my remote control.

Bottom line is that i am freaked out and if o dont come up with a way to fix or restore the tv i may have to pay for a new mainboard myself due to my stupidity...

That is what happens when you play it smart and mess with things you dont know.

    Thank you !

I forgot to mention that i have tried reseting the eeprom by removing it and reinstalling it but that didnt work obviously because it is not a user settings issue.

I now wonder if there is a way to hard reset the tv to factory settings from the main board...

You can't find the service manual for this TV?
Usually, they specify these setting in there.

I see one, but have not downloaded it at elektrotanya. Get Manual, will appear after like 30 seconds below the picture.

Have you attemped to try different panel settings in the service menu? Maybe someone knew how to access and messed things up .I've seen it before.

                Sounds like LVDS settings.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

I am not sure if the original problem was jut a wrong setting. Now the way things are i can not acces service menu and restore model to it's original value so the panel can work.

Re: Samsung TV wrong settings in service menu

Personally I think Either the LCD Display Panel (Most Likely, seeing Samsung) OR The Mainboard was faulty originally.

Now--Both the Mainboard, --now messed up-- and possibly the display is faulty.

Why--Originally, didn't you try the Mainboard from the Other set (That you said were same) in this one--instead of potching with settings?

Highly unlikely settings change by themselves, so little is gained by messing with them in the first place--Except disasters like this. A Little Knowledge is a Dangerous thing as you have discovered!

You Could try downloading the F/W for that exact set from Samsung and updating--but with no picture to work with, this could be difficult/impossible without pulling the Mem-chip and re-writing externally....

I did swap mainboards and it works perfect so psu, panel and tcon are fine. Mainboard is in deed the problem and i just made it worse.

                      What is the F/W ?

Firmware you maybe able to get it from the samsung site usually have to download it to a usb stick.

I found some pictures of the service menu, enter again blind and fix it.

There is no EEPROM reset procedure for this model?

                                Sometimes it wouldn't turn on.

I opened it up, and found 4 bad caps in the pwr supply section.

I unfortunately installee one backwards, i.e. wrong polarity.

When I turned it on, I head a loud pop, and I quickly shut it off.

                                The replaced caps are 3 860uF 25V's, and 1 330u 35V.
                                One of the 860uF blew.

I didn't have another 860uF at home, so I tried it with a 1000uF 35V cap (I remember the reading of the 1k uF cap was close...
