    Panansonic TH-P54V20A, 13-blink SOS

    Hello Madcappers

I hope you can assist with the repair of this TV. I have not been able to find a 'reasonably priced' service manual on line. Can you assist with that?

From what I've been able to assess from this excellent forum, it appears that the A board may have failed but I want to be able to measure the Power board for all its outputs.

Looking forward to your help as the TV is taking-up a lot of space where other stuff needs to be done.

    Thanks

    Roj.

The problem is 'No Pic, No sound' with 13 blinks after the following sequence. :-
    1. With AC power applied, no red Standby light appears
    2. When LHS power switch pushed, rapid green flashing light occurs for several seconds and then solid. Two relay click are heard.
    3. Remote appears to function (rapid green light flashes while any button held, Standby appears to function but no red light, just a restart)
    4. After 3 mins from ON, the relay(s) click and the 198vdc at the P board dips a few volts and recovers
    5. After an additional 3 minutes, the relay(s) click again and the 198vdc decays rapidly to close to zero
    6. This pattern is highly repeatable with any or all of the flex cables detached from the A board
    7. The pattern is repeatable with either or both power-out connectors removed from the power board (top right and left in pic)

well, you missed this, have a look at this, $214 for smashed TV, Unheard of really. Someone was desparate for the main board & or the SC board I suspect !

Some of what you say makes sense, some has me somewhat baffled.

The problem is 'No Pic, No sound' with 13 blinks after the following sequence. :-
    1. With AC power applied, no red Standby light appears If the side power switch is in the OFF position, there will be no RED standby LED
    2. When LHS power switch pushed, rapid green flashing light occurs for several seconds and then solid. Two relay click are heard.I expect the relay clicks and green flashing LED happen at the same time, these are set to return to the previous state i event of a failure
    3. Remote appears to function (rapid green light flashes while any button held, Standby appears to function but no red light, just a restart)this is baffling, standby appears to function? what do you mean by that and just a restart? Is it just cycling itself and rebooting?
    4. After 3 mins from ON, the relay(s) click and the 198vdc at the P board dips a few volts and recoversnot sure about this but if the TV is running and no signal or input then it does go to a powersave mode where the panel dims, could be that?
    5. After an additional 3 minutes, the relay(s) click again and the 198vdc decays rapidly to close to zerodon't know but sounds like it's shutdown at this point?
    6. This pattern is highly repeatable with any or all of the flex cables detached from the A board

13 blinks , i would say is going to be A-board

For manuals , try TOMs sticky . you probably won't find exact for 54V20a, there is a 50V20a would suffice for fault finding i.e. the schematics

You would find a 54G20 or 25 manual for either US or UK/Europe models, same internals just the A boards are different. The TH-P50V20A would be the one I'd pick if looking at A board schematics as the only difference is the DATA loaded onto the EEPROMs and Flash Chips

elektrotanya, also good for free manuals. Certainly don't buy one, it's not going to help a lot as I feel you're looking at A-board here and I doubt it will be component level as I suspect it may be the BGA chip and fractured solders. Could try heating it or if someone has a rework station but I've never tackled a 13 blinker yet.

On the large FLASH IC there should be a small white sticker with the software loaded. What is it? will be 3 numbers and 2 letters i suspect

Oh, when you put pictures up, edit them / rotate and save , then post up. I'm not going to stand on my head to read upside down(jokes)

Ok, I just realised I made a wrong assumption, and a little surpised but looks like the 54 A board is TNPH0892, 50" is TNPH0845 but I'm looking at yours and it looks the same so not sure what differences there are

That flash could have TVRR xxx, 48 pin on underside

            Re: Panansonic TH-P54V20A, 13-blink SOS

            Thanks for responding TW

eBay opportunity was on opposite side of the country so freight would have made it too exy.

            1. OK
With AC power applied, no red Standby light appears If the side power switch is in the OFF position, there will be no RED standby LED

            2. OK
When LHS power switch pushed, rapid green flashing light occurs for several seconds and then solid. Two relay clicks are heard. I expect the relay clicks and green flashing LED happen at the same time, these are set to return to the previous state in the event of a failure

            3. When the Remote's Standby is pressed immediately after the steady green is seen, the start-up sequence (reboot?) repeats. If it is pressed during the SOS, it stops the SOS and steady Green results.
Remote appears to function (rapid green light flashes while any button held, Standby appears to function but no red light, just a restart) this is baffling, standby appears to function? what do you mean by that and just a restart? Is it just cycling itself and rebooting?

            4. No image or illumination occurs at any time with antenna connected and TV mode pressed
After 3 mins from ON, the relay(s) click and the 198vdc at the P board dips a few volts and recovers not sure about this but if the TV is running and no signal or input then it does go to a powersave mode where the panel dims, could be that?

            5. Agreed SOS 13 commences
After an additional 3 minutes, the relay(s) click again and the 198vdc decays rapidly to close to zero don't know but sounds like it's shutdown at this point?

            6.
This pattern is highly repeatable with any or all of the flex cables detached from the A board

            7.
The pattern is repeatable with either or both power-out connectors removed from the power board (top right and left in pic)

I've tried several places for the matching manual, including ElektroTanya where there's an appartent hit and then an apology for moving/deleting. I'll keep trawling but for now will settle for what you have suggested.

If the A board, I doubt I'm up to fault finding it.

Before refitting the metal back-shell and moving the b. heavy lump from my garage/workshop, I did measure the voltages of the two plugs on the P board leading to the A board (below). All with respect to the chassis. '0' means several mV or less. Until I have a manual, I don't yet know if there's any concern but if the P board is required to supply 3.3v, it appears a bit low (is it more likely that 3.3v is generated on the A board?)

Internals are clean with no obvious corrosion and there are no fans to collect dust.

            Regards
            Roj.

              Hello Badcappers

              I've been asking/looking around for an A-board for my SOS-13 TH-P54V20A.

              Question:- From a TH-P60ST50A, will its TNPH0989 A-board be a workable substitute for TNHP0982?

no, but with those broken Tvs sometimes it's worth asking if they'll strip the TV down , box the parts and ship. I've been lucky a couple of times doing this for the 50V20 models. postage if you can convince them to use 2 x 5kg satchels and pack them well that's the cheapest way. But there appears to be nothing around at the moment

                    Hello Badcappers

Have you successfully loaded firmware onto 'physically' identical' board
                    • of different screen size?
                    • from different country?

I have downloaded the desired firmware from
                    http://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/...a/down_oc.html
Unzipped, a single file of 23MB ' SDDL.SEC ' results, unlike a YouTube contribution which suggests 3 files
                    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nh448nktoOA

                    Any advice welcome

                    Cheers

                        Hello TW

                        The closest so far to A-Board for TH-P54V20A (THNP0892AE, EP0892EA106097316) is for TH-P46V20Z (TNHP0845BD, TXN/A1LAUD42, TK0D08G09100331)

What hope exists to convert this A-Board ?

maybe, that was my thought in the start but without schematics not sure. In the US they use the same board excepting revisions for all sizes up to 54" so it may turmn out ok. why don't you trace the outline of the board and also mark the bolt locations and post it to me and I can at least compare that to the 0845 boards i have. full shot of your board top and bottom may be handy to see if there is anything obvious different. Still would like to know what label is on IC8921 TVRRxxx? If that is the same across the range including NZ that will make the task easier.

Do you have an EEPROM reader/programmer?

                              Hello TW

I don't have an EEPROM burner. I received a quote for the TH-P46V20Z A board and its a bit hot for a tv that cost me little and I'm less inclined to take a punt after the commercial concern who has it didn't respond to my queries about return/warranty.

I'll have a look at IC8921 and post some more pics of the board (hopefully right way up). It won't be for a couple of weeks as I'm very busy with my work.

                              Hello Michaeld4500

Its a while since I had a go at this set but I think I did try the no speaker idea...one of the kahunas that live here made the suggestion in another thread. I'll check it to be sure.

No manual so far but I have a near equivalent from tom66's archive
