    A New free Fault Database

    Hi

I have been following this forum for quite some time now , and I can say you are an amazing community .

These last few weeks I have been writing a Fault Database for the community .

Everyone is welcome add new categories and faults entries to share with others

You can search the database by Make/Model , category , fault description , or diagnosis / fix .

The database is still a bit empty , but hope we can build it together .

I know I still have some minor bugs I will be working on when I find some more free time

    Here is the url :
    http://fault-database.host56.com/Faults

    Register and login.

    Any suggestions are welcome.

It would be nice if you could view the database without registering first? Also could help with Google searches. I can understand the need to register before adding items.

      Hi

The registration is just to keep track who added the fault entries and the user can only edit his entries .

To make it indexable by Google, which will bring more users to the site, you should make it so that people not logged in can see entries. It's fine that you have to register to add new entries but not to view them, in my opinion. Just look at a site like badcaps forum: you can browse without registering. Same idea.

            Hi Tom

            Yes you are right ,

I have to make some search engine optimization when i find some free time .

            Thanks for your suggestion .

It only takes a few seconds register and join, it's free and dose not ask for any confirmation.

Please understand that removing the registration part from the code is not that simple now that is ready + time is not on my side at the moment .

So thanks for the suggestion , but at least for now it's not possible .

The registration/login is fine if you want to ADD things
But don't expect people to register to browse items. This will also prevent Google seeing the data.
I don't know about your code, but modifying the browse page should surely be simple; just comment the part that is:
                      PHP Code:
                      if(!$user_logged_inshow_login();
for the browse page. Maybe 10 minutes work, tops. I recommend it
I did register myself out of curiosity, it looks like a good database so far

It's a great idea and probably long overdue but I'm not understanding the opposition to removing the login for browsing the database ???

                          Hi Tom

I don't Expect that people come to the database just to browse it .

But when people need to find a fault in the database than the registration part
will not be a problem .

I even used to pay for a database ( www.euras.com/english/ ) to save time in finding the faults .

                            by Rictech
                            Hello everyone. 😀

As per thread title, this unit has a serious SMPSU fault. It blows F1001, which is a 10A M205 in the phase from the mains input.
Very first thing I tried, was simply replacing the fuse, but the replacement ceramic fuse blew immediately.

Looking at the schematic for this PSU, I then removed what I thought was the next likely candidate: D1001 - the HV main bridge rectifier.
This isolated the fault(no longer blows the main fuse), but does not point me to the actual fault.
There are no devices that have exploded or otherwise show signs...

ESR meter came to the rescue again today with a PLC I/O card fault
                            by sam_sam_sam
I have been having a fun time at work with two pieces of equipment that had shorted components or shorted component cables to machine frame
I would check what my multi meter was telling me about how many ohms I getting with the multi meter was telling versus the ESR was telling me about weather or not it really was a short to machine ground or not

One note at first we thought that it might be a bad I/O card or a malfunction PLC including me as well but I thought I would try and see if removing the I/O cables would make a difference or not and this time it did make a difference...

Strange fault on Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen. 2
                            by cazi1001
                            Hello,
                            I have a strange fault with a Lenovo ThinkPad E14 G2 (Board No. NM-D011 Rev. 1.0).

The first Problem, which I fixed already, was a dead TPS65944AD (USB Type-C) controller. After I fixed this fault, all functions working fine and the notebook run very well with the charger and battery.
On the next day, I tied to start the notebook with the battery, but nothing happened. I started with the charger and on windows, I saw, that the battery was empty. And this was nearly impossible, because the battery was charged. I disconnected the battery and found out, that the board...

Extech EX330 multimeter current range offset fault
                            by PanicMechanic
My multimeter has developed this fault, a few months ago. I tried to fix it, but had no success.

The fault is that on the current ranges it never shows 0. Does not matter if the probes are open or shorted.
As you can see from the pics, the offser is the same (just multiplied for other rages):

                            -4.9 uA
                            -0.49 mA
                            -0.49 A

I don't know what exactlly caused the fault.

The meter had a battery leak before I noticed the fault, but I am not sure if the fault was present before that happened. I just did not noticed. The battery leaked...
