Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
I can still send the faulty replacement SC board back for an exchange. I'm supposed to write on a copy of the invoice "what is wrong with the board." How would I best describe that?
Thanks a lot, again--

Even had a 1 blink which I honestly did not expect to see but when I got the OP to just power with the A board like you did, incredibly it passed. Learn something every day.
Normally with 1 blink A board is the fault but it was just luck that I suggested checking it.Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
Replacing the SC board is what made it change from 10 blinks to 7--so that just means the two SC boards were bad in different ways?
I'll get ahold of a different clip to be sure on the SC50. Thanks for the suggestion of moduslinkpts, and thanks a lot for all the help!Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
Continuing with the next step, I still got 7 blinks. I couldn't find a proper clip so I improvised by bending a paper clip so it would fit, but I feel like it was doing the job adequately. Also, when removing the 4 bolts, there was a 5th bolt in between the SD and SU boards. I left that in.
Thanks.
The other result for the A board is exactly what we needed as it means it's a genuine 7 blink from the Sc.
So good news as far as fault finding is concerned but now you have the added expense of another Sc if you can't get a refund but my advice is consider moduslinkpts for rebuildLeave a comment:

Okay. Eliminating the A board, the set did stay on. At the moment I am letting it sit while the voltage dissipates.
As for the questions in your last post, by no reading I meant OL. And reversing the probes I found I did get some readings:
Old SU
pin 2: 13.21Meg
pin 8: went over 20Meg, which is the max for my meter, then OL
Replacement SU
pin 2: 13.35Meg
pin 8: also >20Meg
Old SD
pin 1: 13.12Meg
Replacement SD
pin 1: 13.8MegLeave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
I have to make a small correction. if the meter reads 16meg then it should have read something at the no reading positions. try reversing the probes on those but more importantly so long as you have tested the correct pin then i'm happy. if you found pin 4 then 2 & 8 are on the same side of the connector as 4. Pin 1 would be on the opposite side of pin 2.
I have seen this before, must depend on the brand of meter, so long as the correct points were tested then we'll assume good for reasons previously mentioned.
just for clarification, when you say no reading , is that OL or what does the display do? Not 0.00 I hope.Last edited by tw2005; 05-13-2015, 03:34 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
Ok, so it's going to take a bit to work through this because there's not a lot of conclusive evidence to be 100%.
The buffers I'm going to say both sets are good and your meter is having trouble reading the higher resistance. if they were an issue we would see low ohms or shorts and the 221k at least is good which gives credibility.
TP82 is higher than i'd expect but depending on which way the probes are placed it will give different results. you could measure that again but place the probes in both directions to get both results so the variation there I can't get anything from. That resistance can go low depending on how bad IC521 is damaged as the 15v feeds that IC.
SC2 on the original is lower than normal so I'm comfortable saying it's bad.check Q661 on that and see if shorted.
So this leaves us now with the predicament of nutting out the current 7 blink.
Firstly, lets try and eliminate A-board for 7 blink.
Disconnect the following, sc2,ss11, 3 white ribbons at the A-board, p35.
Now turn the TV on as normal and confirm if it starts up normally and stays on. There will be no picture.
You may wish to backprobe the P2 or P11 on the p board and see if Vsus (200v) is up and running, this also confirms the TV is in a running state.
Run no more than 30secs , turn off and do NOT reconnect any leads Sc2,ss11 or P35 for 5-10 mins or get the meter and check there is no voltage left there. You can damage the panel with p35 if connected with residual voltage.
Assuming this passes as expected, this is the next step.
Once safe to do so, reconnect all cable and leads, ribbons. (excluding buffer to sc connections) double check everything is correctly seated and all mounting bolts are in place on the SC.
Leave the sd/su disconnected from the Sc, make SURE, the 4 bolts that attach the sd/su to the Sc are REMOVED.
On the Sc board there is a small white 2 pin connector SC50. Short those 2 pins together, an alligator clip can just get in there or maybe an old IDE hard drive jumper may fit.
turn the Tv on and see if 7 blink. if it does then there's something on the Sc bad, if no blinks then by rights the TV should work with the SD/Su connected again and the 4 bolts in place.
With the sd/su there is a small ribbon that connects the 2 boards, make sure that's in placeLast edited by tw2005; 05-13-2015, 01:21 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-P54S2 plasma TV--won't turn on, originally 10 blinks, now 7 blinks
At long last, here are my readings:
original SC board:
SC2 connector pins: 67.3K
TP82: 3.55K
C561: 5.61K
replacement SC board:
SC2 connector pins: 395K
TP82: 4.1K
C561: 5.6K
original SU board:
pin 2: no reading
pin 4: 221K
pin 8: no reading
replacement SU board:
pin 2: no reading
pin 4: 220K
pin 8: no reading
original SD board:
pin 1: no reading
pin 2: 219K
pin 6: 16.28Meg
replacement SD board:
pin 1: no reading
pin 2: 220K
pin 6: 16.17Meg

almost, any point the bolts mount that has metal contact will do except where the buffers mount which is floating gnd not chassis.Last edited by tw2005; 05-09-2015, 07:43 PM.Leave a comment:

Sorry, I meant on the SC board. I should have been specific. The holes for the bolts look different on it, but I guess it's the same answer. Thanks.Leave a comment:

for the buffers it's where the large bolts came out of, can't miss the metal plate. pretty sure if you read what i've posted i've stated this .Leave a comment:

Sure, yes it may seem a lot but I'm sure we'll get this on track again and narrow it down. This way we'll be sure .Leave a comment:

by jm1234Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults... -
by AlicatHello,
Stopped by this site trying to fix my parents Panasonic Plasma TV.
Model number is TH-50PZ85U
Power comes on and the red power light stays on solid.
Did a few checks like hold the power button on for 60 seconds, hold the - Volume while holding the menu button, no luck, still@ blank grey screen as the screen lights up very vague.
I also hear a few clicks.
I also think my parents said there was a thunderstorm and the TV failed after that.
Section 6 in the service manual talks about power and no screen,...10-30-2024, 10:09 AM -
by nick31Hello,
My Oct 2012 panny plasma quit working yesterday.
It was on when it happened. It let out a bit of burned plastic/circuit board smell. I was not able to find any burned parts though.
Now it produces 8 blinks. According to the repair manual, that points to SS/SS2 board(s).
I completed the steps in the guide: unplugged SS33, the TV turned on with a black screen, no blinking codes. Then I checked the continuity between pins 1 and 2 of the connectors SS52, SS54-SS57. The continuity is ok in all of them. Guide suggests to replace SS/SS2 boards so I placed an order... -

I happened several times, in the search for help from the web, to consult this very interesting forum.
So I decided to sign up and I intend to participate actively by making available my knowledge and experience on the subject, I'm a new user but at the same time I'm old in the sense that I have 4 decades of experience in repairing and designing electronics but above all I'm a great passionate about the subject.
Having said that I come to the gist of my post on the forum as the title suggests.

by BiruslapioBought this TV used not working, panel flashed briefly on power up and it was blinking 8 times, a quick look on SS board revealed a common fault on the 3uF 250V capacitors, C201 to C205 (C1620X in the service manual), the solder joints were all cracked, C201 and C205 pins were darkened and some sparking had occurred on them, C201 was split open and clearly overheated in its last hours, replaced that one and resoldered the others, 8 blinks fixed.
Also the previous owner broke the antenna connector by taking the TV out of the wall mount forgetting to unplug it, I desoldered the tuner... - Loading...
