Pioneer PDP-5080 Flashing Red Power LED

    Hello all,

Looking for a little input for problem with my 7 year old Pioneer PDP-5080.

While it was on and running the screen went black. So I cycled the power switch and now still nothing but a blinking red power led. It flashes 7 times and repeats.

Anyone out there have any information or suggestions.

    Thanks in advance

Yes, definitely keep it. Hardly anything lives up to the performance of these sets

Service manual (wait for "get manual" link, bottom of page):

Red 7 on page 64. Y-drive/Y-sustain. Provided the panel is not cracked, this should be the only fault. The boards for these sets are reasonably cheap so I'd just replace the board.

Page 17 has chassis layout showing Y-drive location.

Replacement part (confirm partnumber before ordering):

        Hi Tom,

I agree this has been a great TV still as good or better than much of what I see in stores today even though its only 720p. The plasma display is still fine and the unit was working when it just gave the red blinking led (PD= Power Down) message.

Thanks for the link to the manual. I contacted Pioneer for the part to find out the correct P/N and price. I think all they really wanted was to send somebody out to fix it.... I can do that, I work with electronics everyday.

AWW1260 is the number and they are $542 new.... I think I am going to look around for a better deal. I see it lists a few "Possible Defective Parts" for replacement to solve this problem. So I might see what those are also looks like a bunch transistors and diodes I think, since I haven't even pulled the unit off the wall to look inside yet.

        Thanks again for the help

            Hi Tom,

WOW... $24 that is a great deal. I guess I need to verify my actual PCB P/N before I order though.

I assume you have used this site as a source for parts before and you trust them?

            Thanks.

They're a US company so I've not used them myself but they are generally quite well regarded around here. Parts are taken from TVs damaged in transit or customer returns, so there is a small chance of getting a bad one, but they do have a good returns policy.

                Hi Tom,

I just realized you are not in the USA.... so thanks again for taking time to assist me with this in your "spare" time ... shouldn't you be doing something more important?

There is a chance I will be London in a few months for business, so maybe I can buy you a

                Thanks

Re: Pioneer PDP-5080 Flashing Red Power LED

OK, confirmed the PCB I have is the right one as linked above.

Part ordered today from the site link above, in stock, ships today ground will have it here by Wednesday of next week.

                    So now the waiting begins...

I tried searching on this site to find any problems with PDP-8050 before I posted this thread, I didn't find any other threads referencing this model. That either means they are very reliable, or very rare, or my ability to search correctly is questionable.

Thanks again for your help and I will report back once I get the part installed.

                    Regards

The replacement Y Drive PCB ASSY was waiting when I arrived home today. I installed it no problem and reassembled the unit. Turn the unit on and now I still have no display and new "code" on the red power on LED, it flashes 2 times. Now based on the manual that shows a failure in the power supply. I think I have found the correct part AXY1196 but its about $65. Now the question is I am chasing my tail here.... or is that the real problem.

I had a sense from the beginning of this issue it was a power supply related problem because it was on and running fine and just flat out quit. I am OK changing the Y drive module it was relatively cheap as a first step but now I am concerned about heading down a path which might not be correct.

Open to any thoughts.... thanks in advance.

That's annoying. Do you have a multimeter? A 2 blink code indicates a fault on Vsus. This can indicate the new sustain board is shorted (so much about SJ being reliable, hmm) which can be tested using a meter. To eliminate the power board you can unplug the connector to the Y drive, the fault code should change from 2 blinks to something else.

The Y drive, power board, and others can all fail in ways that produce no picture, even immediately.

                              Hi Tom,

Yes I have a DVM and know how to use it. It was late last night when I got it all back together to test so I just posted what the results were. I am going to have to wait till I have more time to read the manual and figure out where to test the VSUS voltage.

                              Thanks again
