I picked up a 32" LG 32LG30 over the weekend that wouldn't respond to the remote control. All side buttons worked fine. I searched around and found that the 1/8" jack labeled "Remote Control In" on the mainboard has a common issue that it will get corroded over time, breaking the circuit, and tricking the TV into acting as if there is an external receiver plugged into that jack.
The fix listed is to spray a bit of contact cleaner into the jack and work a headphone plug in and out repeatedly until the corrosion is cleaned and the issue is fixed. In my case, I wasn't able to get it to work even after trying with the headphones more than 60 times. I wound up removing the jack and replacing it with a headphone jack from another set.
So far everything is working great.
