SAMSUNG PLASMA 50INCH PS50Q7HD No Picture

    Hi all,

    (Sorry for long detailed post)

I hope someone could help me out? I have a SAMSUNG PLASMA 50INCH PS50Q7HD which I bought secondhand 4-5 weeks ago. The t.v was a spares & repairs job (£40) and I understood at the time it had no picture... But it had sound. I purely bought it as I have fixed a few smaller tvs in the past.

I did a bit of research before buying it and read on the net it was probably the Ymain & buffer boards faulty and a quick look on ebay prompted me into getting the tv as spares were available. On getting the tv home (after buying it) I decided to switch tv on and within minutes there was a small pop and a little smoke came from the top right of the set.

After letting the tv power down for an hour I decided to take the back cover off and have a look...I quickly discovered that the Ymain board had a few blown diodes which indicated a problem.

I also read that as a certain section of the Ymain diodes had blown, it was likely the bottom buffer caused the problem......... It seemed an easy fix!!!!

I ordered a new Ymain board and a "Pair" of buffers from Cradeal.co.uk which arrived today! I have now fitted them to TV. Unfortunately I still only have sound and NO picture........ which was the original problem!

I really am back to square one!?!

The set now stays on with the sound coming through nice and clear!

There is no image, no flecks, even if you press menu... there is nothing!

I had checked all VS and other outputs and they all appear to be fine. I have seen other test on Youtube and my VS etc are within the 2v range.

The TV cost me £100+ and the moment Any advice would really be appreciated, as this is the second package from cradeal after they sent the wrong parts last time??!!

I could ask Cradeal for a refund on the lot if the Ymain and buffers should have fixed the problem, as they could be faulty themselves I suppose!

I even tested my old buffers before replacing and I was never convinced they were faulty as I could not get them to fail in Continuity test. I purely replaced all 3 boards as Cradeal would cover the lot in 60 day warranty and following other people advice. To me it made sense to buy as a package.

Like I said before I could go for a refund, but I prefer a fix!

    I sure you guys understand

    Hmm--I wonder.....

On the Y-SUS board in your set--Is there a tiny green led illuminated when the set is on ...?

Not sure if your exact set uses the same y-sus as my trouble-making heap of crap, but there shouldnt be any led lit on the y-sus if all is good....

--The led in my case means a protection circuit has activated....

Thank you for the interest Alastair.

The Y board does not have any led on.....

Although there was a green led on a board underneath the scart/audio board?!

I only noticed it tonight as I happened to move the TV before I put it away. Is this other board (underneath scart/hdmi/audio board) the control board?

      Could this cause no picture?

As I have said before the voltages all appear to be ok, wondering if it Xmain??

      Any input appreciated

See if the control/logic board - underneath the main A/V board - has a little light on it flashing.
No glow from the screen at all? Any buzzing from the Y-main/X-main?

            Thanks

I checked all the voltages to and from powerboard and compared them to the panel sticker inside TV. The voltages were as stated on panel sticker, although there was a marginal 2v under.

I also checked the voltage coming out of the powerboard to Ymain etc and those vsc voltage etc were also fine....... as above?!

            Hmmmm indead!

(TV Panel back on and away until morning more testing tommorow)

              Thanks for the replies everyone!

I have posted a video on YouTube..... Which took me a while to get round too

As an update I have retested all Va, VSC,Vs,Ve & Vset voltages and all of them are spot on. I noted in my video below that I spotted a Green LED which was on Solid LED2000 & another LED which Flashes LED2002.
As it was on the Contolboard I thought it was Suspicious at first!

I don`t think LED 2000 is anything to worry about now! Correct me if im wrong??!!

              IMPORTANT!!!!

When the TV (Ymain) first went pop I researched online and took others recommendations to replace the Y buffers and Ymain as a package. After fitting the set (hence my thread) I still have the same problem!

Seeing as my original buffers tested fine out fine a few weeks ago I took the plunge since filming my video too fit my old buffers back to TV, leaving the new ordered buffers in the bag...... I switch the TV and still get sound, no picture and the TVs been on for over 1hr+ with no issues??!!

The LED2000 is till on solid and the LED2002 is still flashing, even with my old buffers fitted to the TV or the New buffers..... STUMPED!!

Step back Spielberg..... Let the camera roll!!

Re: SAMSUNG PLASMA 50INCH PS50Q7HD No Picture

Green flashing LED indicates control board is running and working, and it is trying to sustain the panel (trying to make it light up) - these older panels don't have any feedback, so if something fails the control board will still try its best to make the panel light up. A slow LED flash (2-5 blink, 2sec on 5sec off) on newer Samsung panels is a protection fault. But again, doesn't apply to your set.

In a pitch black room, do you get any glow from the screen with your new boards?

You can try checking the various heatsinks on the Y-main and X-main and see how the temperature varies. Use the back of your hand. Do not attempt this on the power board.

                      Hi Tom66,

The TV does not have any glow whatsoever. I checked yesterday evening by wrapping our curtains, over my head too see if there were any flecks etc....

...... But No Go.......Or should i say Glow

                      And so it continues.........

I had the TV on for another hour today as I thought I would see how the heatsinks felt. The Ymain board felt cool to touch and the Xmain was mildly warm. I was able to keep my hand on it put it that way!

I am open to more suggestions....... Thanks again for your time!

Are all fuses including the small SMD/soldered ones OK?

                            Hi all, back again.

Been away as I have had spinal surgery which has taken weeks to recover...... Now back to RL and this bleeding TV!

I have checked the fuses as suggested and all seem well. More suggestions are welcome. I am still a little concerned that LED 2000 is permanently on, while 2002 flashes (like an indicator) on the control/logic board.

Also the X-main syncs are definitely hotter than the Y-main as I have had the TV on for over an hour today listening to the sound.

Could the Xmain be the culprit or normal?

                            Cheers again for your dedication
