    Re: Samsung PS50A656T1F clicking

    Hi Guys,

Sorry I am a little confused, I have attached a close up pic of the connector on the PSU. I measured the voltages on the bottom right pin, looking at the markings close to the connector that pin is PS_ON. Which pin should I be checking?

      Hi Guys,

Have I taken the picture of the correct connector?

        Looks right.
Easily verified checking neighbour pin should carry standbyvoltage (+5V)

Hi Andy check the pin next to ps-on the stby you should have 5v/5.3. To check the supply is working you can test as follows. if you pull all the plugs from the board but leave the mains in connected , then check stby pin for 5v, if that is there put the ps-on pin to ground (I solder a lead to next socket to the left of this one ,on the under side of the ps-on pin, and put a crocodile clip on the other end to clip to ground)the relay should now click in, you will now see the smaller voltages come up on the board , if this is working then you need to make the Vs-on high (stby 5v though a 500-1K ohm resistor to Vs-on pin) this will bring in the high volt Vs/Va that can be read on the test points. Hope this is of help Flocko

              Hi Floko,

Just did as you said no cables connected just the mains into the PSU and on the STBY pin I get 5.2v. I do not have any resistors at home will look to order some on ebay or if you have any I would happily buy from you as I am only in Hawkinge!

You can try PSon to ground to check to see if relay comes in, Try that first you only need a resistor for Vs on ?lets just see if works Flocko

Hi Andy Sorry should have looked harder before giving you the power on jump test, have just seen that this is a BN44-00222 board that has the little stand up board to show faults on board (when the board has power the green LED should be lit), so with this board the PS on ground signal goes though the fault board, no big deal but you have to ground the ps on pin on the main board socket(CN801) not the logic(CN802) to bring the relay in, this can be done by grounding the wire jump JP145 just above and to the right of the main board socket, with this grounded the relay should come in and all small voltages will come on as well as Va. the Vs on can now be made high (jumped to 5v stby ) to bring this voltage to life. try this and let me know how it goes Flocko

                      Hi Floko,

Sorry about the delay, thank you for the info, am I doing the shorting of the link JP145 with all the connectors connected and the set switched on?

                      The part you mentioned below:

"the Vs on can now be made high (jumped to 5v stby ) to bring this voltage to life".

Are you saying I need to make VS high? if so how do I do that or are you saying it will go high once I ground the link JP145?

Read again with all plugs removed from power board apart from main supply ? jump JP145 to ground that will bring in relay and small voltages ? if that happens then jump Vs on to 5v stby to bring up the Vs voltage Flocko

"if that happens then jump Vs on to 5v stby to bring up the Vs voltage"

Are we talking about VS_on (CN802)?

Do you mean using a wire touch VS_on (CN802) to STBY (CN801)

When you said the set switched on what do you mean? if it all come to life then your problem is with the main board, and could be a faulty SMD 47uf 10v tant cap C102 on the back of the board ,as this will also make the power relay click as it will not maintain the grounding of the PS on Flocko

Hi Floko, I had the PSU fitted with just the power coming in, I used a piece of wire and touched J145 to the earth screw and it did not switch on.

The issue was you give it power and you hear the PSU click to switch on, most of the time it does not come on and occasionally it does switch on and you can watch it.

so the power supply is not responding to the PS on signal (no relay click ) lets start again, do you have 5v standby supply showing on CN801 when the mains are feed to the board (all other plugs removed) is the green LED on the small board (just above CN802)alight ? STBY 5.24V ( second pin in from bottom right hand of bottom row of CN801)

and do you have the green LED alight on the sub board just above CN802 ? Flocko

Have you got the board out of the set? if you have that screw terminal by the mains socket is the hot ground and is not connected to the secondary ground unless the board is mounted in the set use the one half way up the left hand side of the board that is secondary ground? so we have standby voltage, we need to find why the relay is not coming I?

I just tried using the wire holding it on JP145 and touching the frame that has the wall bracket threads in, also the screws that hold the PSU on as they appear to have an earthing tag on the PCB, and a few other parts of the set.

I have a UE40F7000 Samsung which occasionally fails to properly come out of standby. The relay clicks and the backlight flashes but then goes off again with a click, and repeats. I think its temperature related as leaving it overnight seems to allow it to switch on OK.

I assume its PSU related and had a look - it's a BN44-00632B. No signs of swollen caps or hot components.
