    Samsung LCD TV clicking

Hello all! I'm glad to be apart of the group! I hope someone out there can help shed some light on an issue i'm having.

I have a samsung un55d6900 that is not coming on. It will just click multiple times trying.

Here is what I've tired so far:
I've swapped out the power board with the same results, i've seen others say this fixes it but it doesn't for me.
I've unplugged the cable going to the main board and it DOES power up the backlight only.

Other than this i'm not sure what to do next, I would hate to buy another part just in trying to make it work.

I thank you all in advance for your help with this.

Posting pictures of the back of your tv showing the boards with clear pictures may help you more with fixing your problem

Also post some voltages that go from the PSU to the mainboard. Got to verify if you have 5V STBY voltage and how much voltage is on the PSon pin, while you try to turn on the TV.

D6XXX models will point me at 2 things :

        1) Bad Main
        2) Bad LED Strip

Symptoms will show that the 5v STBY will hold fine but all other voltages will jump.

You may be able to see if any LED's have failed by disconnecting the main and looking to the left and right of the panel in a dark room for dark areas, if any LED's have failed open you will get these symptoms... Failing short not so. You won't always be able to notice them and only way of then testing is to dismantle the panel and test the strips... To do so you will need a 2000 + count meter in continuity mode to check each LED, a 2000 + should be enough to illuminate each LED slightly.

Thank you everyone! This is helping alot!
I was wondering if the Main board could possibly be the problem. I found one for less than $100 so I'm thinking of trying this next. I can't see any problems from forcing the backlight to light, as they all seem to be working fine as far as I can tell without dismantling the tv.

Would you all think this is a good step for one who is merely a computer tech and doesn't understand component level testing.

You can try a main but the LED's in these sets are prone to fail, If one has failed you may not be able to tell but rest assured that single one failing open will stop the set working.

I would get a meter on the PSU first before anything just to confirm you are experiencing the above symptoms, You don't want to be replacing the main if that is not at fault

            So get a DMM ready

He's already replaced the PSU and both fire the backlights when the ps-main cable is disconnected. That tells me the led's are working.

Try putting a hair dryer all over the main board for about 30 seconds and see if the set comes on or if the symptoms change at all. Concentrate the heat on the main processor of the main board if general heating doesn't change anything.

Don't these sets still power the backlights if the LED is short but won't power when open?

They can power the backlight AND still function with shorted leds. All depends on what the supply can deal with I guess.

Yes that's correct I have replaced the power board and i'm getting the same clicking. Would any of you mind giving me detailed instructions on how to check to see if the Leds are bad? I honestly am not too familiar with a voltmeter if i'm honest. Sorry i'm such a newbie.
                    Thank you all!

With the above advice I would try what mmartell has suggested

Seems the main is most likely the culprit

Easiest to try this first as going into the panel is what you'd want to do LAST.

Hello All! Thank you for your help. In the attachments I've tried to heat up the part circled in red with a heat gun. It did not come on just kept clicking the whole time. Let me know if this is what was suggested or am i mistaken.
                          Thanks,

Yes that is correct. Try warming the whole board now and don't be afraid to use the dryer it will not harm the board. At least thirty seconds on full heat.

If you have a can of air you can turn it upside down and spray it on the same chip (after it gets back to room temp!) and this will cool the chip down. We are simply trying to see if you have an intermittent or bad solder connection.

                              Hello everyone,
I know it's been a bit but finally had a chance to get back to this. I have done what you suggested on warming the whole board with a heat gun with no improvement, the TV clicks away. Would replacing the main board be the fix that I need?
                              Thanks so much,
