We were watching tv when we heard a pop, sparks came out the top & screen went blank. Removed the back, no visible damage, blue power light and red standby light are on. Tried to reset trap switch, blue & red lights still on. Any ideas?

Look at PSU, X and Y boards and Y buffers closely. If you heard a pop and there were sparks then something is going to be visibly damaged somewhere.
Good quality pics of all boards would help. -

We can't get good pics so we took out the main power board, no visible damage, no burn marks on front or back, all capacitors look in tact, but one has a black dot that's not consistent with the rest.Comment

Its not just caps that can pop. Diodes, fet's, Vr's and resistors can fail with a pop.
Check buffer boards and the ribbon cables going to the panel for burn marks or other damage.
If there were sparks, something had to let them out.Comment
