Samsung HL61A750 DLP with bad caps!

When turned on, no picture and all indicators flashing. Found out that a few of the caps in the sub power supply BP96-01726B PCB are bad. I am planning to replace the following:

    1. Samwha WB ultra low impedance series 2200uf 25V 0.015 ohm 3460 mA ripple current
    Datasheet:

with: Panasonic FR series 2200uf 35V 0.014 ohm 3820 mA ripple current
    Datasheet: http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/315/ABA0000CE132[1]-293385.pdf

    2. Samwha WL extremely low impedance series 100uf 450V 0.71 ohm 1200 mA ripple current
    Datasheet:

For this one I cannot find any caps which can meet the impedance and ripple current requirements.

    Please advise. Thanks.

That main filter cap 100uF 450v is probably OK, I rarely replace the main filter caps.
You should replace other caps at the same time.

      Hi, budm,

Thanks for your reply. I know it is my luck. That main filter cap has a swelling top already. As you said, it is not common for that cap to fail, I have had a hard time finding a cap with similar impedance and ripple current specifications to replace it. Any idea?

      Thanks.

Hi budm, did you fix the power supply by replacing the caps?

I actually meant Fun148, I have the same problem, i replaced both swollen 2200yf caps and it didn't fix it.

I dont know yet. I have 2 swollen 2200uf 25v and 1 swollen 100uf 450v caps. I am planning to replace all 4 2200uf ones and the big one. I just put the order in today. I will let you know once I have them installed, which most likely will be next week.

On most PSUs, the specs of the big 450V cap aren't that critical. You would probably get away just fine replacing it with something that had a somewhat higher ESR.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Thanks for the info, c_hegge. The problem is that I could not find the ESR value of the caps in most datasheets. Right now I have gone with the "Longest" life one.

No, didnt fix mine either. How about yours, any luck?

Mine is behaving exactly as described in the service manual:

                  "Protect Status

                  1. Attempting to turn the LED ASSY on fails repeatedly
If turning the LED on fails, the set automatically tries turning the LED ASSY on 3 times. If all attempts fail, all LED's on the front panel will blink. Check the LED ASSY, LED Driver and the Sub power or SMPS and replace them if necessary"

Now my TV will automatically go through this "Protect Status" steps as soon as I plug it into the wall electrical outlet (i.e. without me pushing any button either on the TV or the remote). When all the LED's start blinking at the same time, all the fans will be turned off. The LED's and the center on/off button light can only be turned off by pulling the plug.

Is your TV behaving the same as mine?
