    Sony Bravia 46XBR4 picture problem

Picked this up recently and initially it worked fine. Last use the screen was dark--images were discernible but much less so than before and adjustments didn't help. No lines, or blank or black areas in display--just dark.

Haven't had a chance to look at it inside--any thoughts?

    I would say T-con board.
But could be easily a blown cap on the PS. ( Had that with a grundig lcd ).

Pictures of the tv with the fault would help.
I only repair Panasonic plasma tv's! Currently owning a TX-P55VT50 and still searching for a ZT60!

Attached are some photos. Right side of screen is darker, there has been some flickering when in the Menu or Settings. No lines on display, no lights blinking. One cap a 3300 @25V in the PS is marginally swollen on top where the remainder are perfectly Flat. I tried Vivid and standard Modes, and reverted to factory settings, etc. Contrast changes, but overall the screen is darker than you'd like and right side more so that left. There is some variation top to bottom as well.

Tried the set again today and after taking the photos I attached above and a 15 -20 minute warm-up, the picture quality is back to normal. Any thoughts?

This is most likely a panel failure (tab bonding failure) may be fixable with a shim, it depends though.

a little swollen?, replace the cap, even ones that don't bulge can be bad, no guarantees, but for about a buck a piece, always good policy, as always be careful working with power supply, HIGH VOLTAGE, on primary side can be deadly.

I have never shimmed one of these--how does that work? I've been running the set all day and it's fine after warm-up.

I agree with nomoresony's. It has the same fault as the philips 8404 ambilight. You need to use some hard carbon/thick paper and place it between the tabs and cover.
I would also replace that cap , if its not the problem right now then it will be give problems later on

                        by retrorepair
Hello gurus, hope you can assist me...

I have a Sony KDL.40P3600, with an issue on the left side of the screen (pictures attached).

I think the problem is the panel, but before send it to trash, i would like to get a second opinion.

                        Thanks in advance.

Trying to Save - SONY BRAVIA KD-75X780F - No Picture BUT there’s sound
                        by KYBOSH
Previous owner said TV just went blank one day.
They attempted to open the back panel and yanked the power connector off the power supply in the meantime.
Easily fixed that and got the TV to turn on. Backlights come one with everything connected. Good Sign.
The mainboard shows signs of life (red light on digital audio out is on) but that's about it. Good Sign.
There is not blinking LED and the most importantly there is LED response and sound when I press the MENU button on remote control. GREAT Sign.

I just downloaded the Sony KD-75X7800F Service Manual and...

I was watching youtube yesterday, when I paused it to go to the washroom. When I came back, the right side of the screen was showing half of the youtube channel and the left was black. I powered off/on the unit with the remote and now I have no picture whatsoever except for the bluish backlight. I did the factory reset (power + vol down), and now I when I power on I get the startup music, backlight but no picture.

I took the back cover off, and reseated all cables but unfortunately same issue. I took some voltage measurements on the main 2 headers from the power supply board and...

                        Hi Folks,
I have a 65" newer (2021 model) that has no sign of life. No backlight, no front LED (assuming it has one) and no audio or turn on chime.

                        Photos below of the system

The CN6401 Connector has the following vitals:
                        STBY_3.3V is 3.432 V
                        BL_ON low (0.153 V)
                        BL_ERR low (0.051V)
POWER_ON 3.42 V (as soon as I plug it into the wall this comes on)
                        REG12V pins 12.7 V
                        TCON_VCC12V pins low (0.11V)
                        TCON_ON low (0.155)

Large caps are at 392V as soon as I plug into power

                        Seems like a Mainboard...
