    Insurance Repairs Require New Boards?

I had a Plasma TV come in for repair and they have renters insurance.
They had a form they wanted me to sign a paper that lightning was the fault.
I have no way to be sure. When the surge come into the Main Board through a HDMI and wipes out the CPU. I have no way to tell if it just failed or was caused by the surge.
New boards were not available only used boards. Do insurance copanies allow used boards for repair or only allow new boards to be used?
    Thanks

I'm surprised that renter's insurance would even cover something like this. Generically speaking, I would say insurance companies would prefer used parts as they are generally a cheaper cost than new parts. If new parts are not available, then what can you do? Besides, if the the repair costs more than the TV is worth, then you know the rest.....
