    Re: Toshiba 37AV502R off/on

So I just replaced the diode with 1N4148 and now the TV is not working at all. Maybe I put the diode backwards? So on the board the original diode has the white line, does that stand for the positive side or the negative side? On the board as well there is a white line to the same side but it is more to the middle than the side. I installed the diode with the black band to the side of the white line.

Pity you didn't check first before removing and replacing the diode.

The original diode does not look normal, the white line is not on the end as normal, it is in the middle but slightly to one side. even the white mark on the board is in the middle slightly to one side. I have not seen this before. I have flipped it around and will try it today.

Looks like the diode is connected as per attached photo.

I know which way the diode was connected, that is not what I was saying. If you look back I asked if the white strip on this specific diode indicated Positive side or negative side?

Anode is positive and the Cathode is negative and the white strip is closest to the cathode terminal.

Well the TV is not working with the diode in either direction so I am going to order a NEW diode. I have a bunch of new ones here but they don't seem to be working.

So was the TV working before? Was it going ON and OFF just like OP's TV? Do you still have the original diode?

Yes, it was working before. I seemed to have lost the original diode, I spent an hour looking for it but have not found it yet.

So I found the original diode, it just appeared on my work table in front of me. No markings except for the white line. I have the new diodes but I can't get to work on it today. It may be a few days before I can get back to it.

Got to work on the TV today and installed the SMD 1N4148W diode. I installed it with the help of dick_barton's picture. It seems that the glass diode does not do the job. But after installing the SMD diode the TV turns right on. I am not sure how long to wait to see if it turns off by itself but so far working good, 20 min+. I will play a movie now. Also I installed a cooling fan as you can see from my pictures.

The diode I installed has (T4 P8) marked on it, you can't see that in my picture.

After 1 hour and 15 minutes the TV is still on with no trouble. I can guarantee you that with out Badcaps forum I would not have figured this out. It would not have gotten fixed. Thank you so much.
