Panasonic plasma w/ odd ghosting from previous images

I have a TC-P55VT30 that's having some odd display issues. I've searched the forums and have found somewhat similar issues, but they seem quite the same. Of course, its always a matter of what to search for...

Here's what's going on. I'm seeing faint images of things that were on the display previously in various situations. Its not burn-in because they're images that were only on the screen for <30seconds.

For instance, I started up the TV cold and went into the setting menu. I was poking around for a minute or two. I then got out of the menu, switched to the AppleTV input and turned on the AppleTV. On the menu display which has a dark gray/black background, the top of the screen was flashing somewhat brighter and I could see ghost images of "Viera Link" from the settings menu.

In another case, while watching, there was a bright screen and, in the top half, I saw (in cyan-ish color) the image of the Netflix episode guide that I'd had stepped through about 10 minutes before. I wasn't only on that screen for <10s. So, again, I wouldn't think it to be burn in.

Otherwise, the TV's works fine. There's no LED blinking at startup or anything. But, just to be safe, I've stopped watching (based on what I've read on other threads) it and disconnected it from power.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not an expert, but I have read elsewhere that this can be caused by the z sustain board. I would check it for blown capacitors or other visibly bad components.

This is completely normal for 2011 Panasonic sets. You could consider it a fault but it's just due to how Panasonic drive the panel. To get low black levels, they do not apply such a wide reset pulse, so you can get ghosting on black.

I get that effect on my 2010 too sometimes on a straight black screen after a still image.
Does not affect the Tvs performance or image, looks weird, but I don't worry too much. I have no burn and panel has 10300hrs on it now. Image still very good.

I guess the issue that worries me most are the "cyan-ish" discoloration in bright scenes. It's definitely something new that i just started seeing a week ago. Is that normal with age too? It's really quite noticeable.

No, that could be a serious fault. I did not realise you had that fault.

You should unplug the TV immediately. The screws on the SC board can arc due to loose connections, this can cause damage to the SC board and SU/SD buffers.

The fix is to replace the screws with the proper type.

I just wanted to say thank you for the advice. The screws are replaced and the TV working as it did before.

Glad to hear - Seems to be a common issue!
