Panasonic TH-42Z700U Buffer or Panel that is the question!

    Hey friends of the BCF!

I got this little 42 inch here and when turned on it looks like 75% of the screen is void.

AS you can see the OSD is cut off but when a signal source is connected the screen is 100% with a 3" sort of transparent green line going half way as you can see in other pictures.

When the screen transitions to black it cuts out a large chuck only going halfway. This leads me to believe its a bad buffer.

NOW to the even more obscure affliction.

The picture setting is at full, when I go to adjust it down the screen starts to go negative and when I get to -3 it starts to strobe. Could this be cause by the problematic buffer or is this a SC board about to go boom?

I tried to get video of it but the camera wouldn't show the flicker so that didn't work.

Other then that the panel seems to be fine and the Green line only shows up when there is a signal.

No gut shots yet, I just got to this after fixing a couple of panels before hand and I wanted to save my back from the 1000 screws Panasonic likes to use to button up their units!

    Scrap or fixable!?

The PZ70 series has buffers top and bottom.

Looks like theres an issue with that buffer/COF chip that drives that section of screen....

Unlike more usual sets, this is Panasonic's first FHD 42" set and the upper and lower address buffers only drive the screen to halfway down, not all the way vertically.....

I will break it down tonight and see about getting some voltages, I don't have a stand for it so it will have to lay face down!

From the looks of things, parts are pretty cheap.

Looks to me like the address COF has a loose connection, probably fixable by reseating or cleaning the connector.

Would that loose connection account for the screen strobing when adjusting the picture setting?

Er... that's an interesting one. Can you get a video of that?

I tried, the video didn't pick it up! all is shows is a normal looking screen. I might see if I can do a time laps to slow down the video as its filming.

                  Hey all!

It ended up being a dirty cable from the panel to the buffer (it always seems to be one that's under a fan!)

I removed it cleaned it and the connector and popped it back in and voilà it fired right up and working. No more screen strobing or flicker.

I did managed to snap a ribbon lock on the upper left buffer for the LDVS, it pretty much disintegrated as I was flipping it up. I managed to lock the cable down with what remained but so far its been working 100% as the cable was in there pretty damn tight with out being locked down.

Panel was on for 8+ hours after the ribbon reseat and no issues thus far!

Another Panny saved from the landfill!

                  Now on to the next!

Macbook 2017 with touchbar (A1706) won't turn on after removing the screen
                    by Ryan.man
Hello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...

                    Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Hi all, I’ve got a problem I hope someone can help me fixi.
I have a Panasonic TX-48CX350B tv , it powers up ok but the screen is blank, the backlights are working, there’s nothing else though, no picture or sound. I’m not sure what the fault is called whether it’s BLANK/ BLACK/ or WHITE SCREEN I’ve actually came across this before on a similar tv but just ended up scrapping it, I will upload pictures of the boards etc , if anyone could help me I would really appreciate it...

Panasonic Plasma TH-50PZ85U No screen No blinks on red power light
                    by Alicat
                    Hello,

Stopped by this site trying to fix my parents Panasonic Plasma TV.

                    Model number is TH-50PZ85U

Power comes on and the red power light stays on solid.

Did a few checks like hold the power button on for 60 seconds, hold the - Volume while holding the menu button, no luck, still@ blank grey screen as the screen lights up very vague.

I also hear a few clicks.

I also think my parents said there was a thunderstorm and the TV failed after that.

Section 6 in the service manual talks about power and no screen,...

iphone XS turns off when press on screen.
                    by smic717394
                    Hi,

I have a iphone XS that came in for a screen replacement, the screen was badly cracked, and inside missing scues, on the back of the screen still the blue protector, the screen was a LCD. So we replaced the screen and all good, installed the screen and we noticed that pressing the screen with a bit of force but not excessive, the phone dies. After plugging the charger it turns back on, but again if you press it it dies. I open the phone again, and I can't see anything major, with the phone open, if I press on the logic board, battery, charging board, or even putting pressure on...
