Westinghouse 42" HD flat panel question

Have a chance to pick up a Westinghouse 42" flat panel for a good price--and it's got an issue.

Current owner says the screen was hit by something but did not crack the glass that he is aware of.

I've borrowed the photo he sent in of the screen. Just looking for possible ideas of how bad or good this could be. It's priced low enough to get my interest. But I'm concerned about the screen.

I'm thinking maybe the edge connector came loose from the impact--in that case maybe some foam tape to act as a 'wedge' might bring it back to life. But I'm not sure.

Any feedback would be welcome. I'd like to setup something quick if this is a good solid chance-

(that's as good a screen shot that I could grab. The one with the TV off looks normal?)

    Thanks!

That looks like a cracked panel to me from the photo, I would steer clear. The damage is probably not visible externally but with the display on it's a dead giveaway.

Well, that's part of the fun. He's asking $30 for it, or best offer. I suspect (sense the other photo shows no damage) the broken area is above the trim area, probably right along the strip that has the electrical contacts.

If I can get him down to $20, would it be a fair deal? I could always part it out.

        Thanks!

Well, if anyone else cares to weigh in.

Knowing that it will likely be a parts machine. What would be a fair price? Would it be worth throwing a twenty on it just for the experience?

Or just say nope and continue to try and find a decent 'working' set that has an intact screen. Looking for options and opinions.

(Heck, if I can find a 32" westinghouse? I saved the guts and no interest so far from anyone wanting to buy it. The screen is 100% <G> Shame I can't modify it for the 42".)

I would guess the panel is fubar as well, and that being the case there won't be much to learn but how to loosen the screws to harvest the boards

Well. Looks like I'll see if I can pick the set up for a reasonable price.

Would the $20 be a decent price? (He's asking $30, but I can probably kick him down a bit) Considering it would be a 'harvest' job, I can probably sell the parts as needed to other members and on eBay to recover the costs.

LG 49UJ6500 LCD panel lighter band that goes away
                by howardc64
49UJ6500 LCD panel has a lighter band on top when first powered on. Goes away (or gets much fainter) after TV on for a few min. After powered off for awhile and power back on, same band appears. If powered on immediately after powering off, no or much fainter band. Running the latest firmware.

Disassembled the TV and lifted the LCD panel during testing. Band is on the LCD panel (can see the band on the panel as I lift it slightly) Backlight is perfectly even at the top edge. Double checked LCD panel alignment in the frame and is perfect but since band moved with the panel, its on...

SAMSUNG UN50TU8000F rebooting, backlight ok. No 12v to panel boards.
                by triplefour
TV flashes backlight then reboots over and over. no image. Client said it used to have image for a bit before rebooting. Got worse over time.

                tcon is built into mainboard.
Only one cable goes to panel boards.
there is a cable from one panel board to the other that links them.
cost cutting measure that results in us having harder time to diagnose.
removing the link to the second panel board allows TV to stay on with stable backlight but no image.
used cut off tape method to mask 1 maybe 2 pins on the side of the cable that goes to that second panel board....

Missing LCD Panel Voltages VGH, VGL, VCOM (TCL 55P6US Sound & Backlight but NO Picture)
                by maneatingmonkey
I have a TCL 55P6US with sound and backlight but no picture. This model does not have a T-CON board, and the right (rear perspective) panel board is fed from the left panel board. I have not been able to induce any change by disconnecting the secondary panel board or the tape cut-off method on the primary board.

There are a bunch of voltages missing on the panel boards. I can't find any shorted caps of the panel boards, and all of the missing voltage rails read in the kiloohms, which leads me to suspect the issue may lie on the circuit board, rather than a short in the panel.

                Vizio M70-C3 Issue
                by acprogrammer
I have a Vizio M70-C3 I replaced the LEDs on. That all went fine (had to redo a few solder joints, but no problem). Panel was working great after reassembly (handling that thing is nerve racking, especially when it's 70"). But when I went to do final assembly, it appears one of the flat flex cables between the TCON and the thin PCBs attached to the panel came lose and was in its connector crooked. After that, half the display didn't work correctly (symptoms hard to describe - see attached pictures, best description is that half the display seems to show white and black OK, but other colors...
