What are your thoughts on cleaning TV boards with 91% isopropyl alcohol?

I recently got a working LG plasma (static noise from speakers), with a broken screen. Being a rough scrap pickup, the boards inside had a really nasty coating of some sort of black soot. For some reason , the soot seemed worse on the brown colored PCB's than it was on the green ones.

Did some research , and decided to submerge the boards after removal in a pan of the alcohol. Then, I scrubbed with a soft bristle brush. Was not even able to get but about half the soot off, and have them drying now.

People say that the alcohol will soon evaporate, and should have no ill effect on circuit boards. However, I was having some second thoughts thinking about particular parts like POTs, I/O ports, etc. Is it possible the alcohol could get into a particular component, fail to evaporate, and cause some sort of problems later? Thanks for any ideas!

I'd use a soft bristle brush to get most of the dust off. Drowning, not sure espsecially with transformers if any. I have recently drowned a Sustain board from a Panasonic not in a bath but pretty liberal. It was working but after I did this mysteriously it faulted. Took me a while to nut it out but I had a 16 FET driver Ic which I replaced on a hunch and fixed it again. Found there was conductance on some pins there shouldn't.

When I inspected the chip underneath there was a lot of residue and I suspect somehow a lot of the gunk and dirt was flushed to there and collected becoming conductive.

I suspect that was my doing when I washed it with alcohol, it dried and created this problem so just something to consider

      Thanks TW!

I still have the chassis for the set on the table. As it was so filthy , I didn't want to deal with remounting the boards, but maybe I should to make sure things at least appear to be working.

Usually when I rip the boards out, I don't pay much attention to the panel connections. Theoretically, would the set still power on the same if I just hooked up the boards again, and left all ribbon connection to panel open? Since most of the screws were kinda rusty, i'd probably just want to tack them down with a few per board.

98% IPA is better if you want to submerge a whole board. I once put a whole computer mainboard in 98% iso, POWERED ON. The board had a water spill and the line for the power switch was shorted, because of this the board was continuously powering on and then off.

I brushed at it till it stayed on. Then it worked beautifully and still does to this day.

        A working TV? How boring!

Isopropyl alcohol as a cleaning agent?
          by ClockChip
          Hello All,

I wanted to check with the board before I do anything foolish and/or irreversible. Can someone please set me straight on the use of isopropyl alcohol to clean electronics? I understand it is commonly used to clean electrical contacts. However, in this case, I am wondering if I can safely immerse a small electronic item in alcohol provided a) all power has been removed and b) I take care to dry it thoroughly before re-applying power.

The short version is that I am seeking to clean an older used (well-used) electronic item. The basic plan is to immerse it in...

LG OLED C1 Pixel Cleaning Made Picture Worse
          by rumi409
           Hi,

I'm trying to resurrect a LG OLED C1 TV that has some panel banding. I used the TCON error bypass to get a picture. I was able to update the firmware as well. But when I performed a pixel cleaning to try to get the banding out, it made the image significantly worse. I tried to undo the effects of the pixel cleaning by performing a factory reset and IN_Stop, but that didn't work. Any way to reset pixel cleaning data?...

Asus ROG Strix B450-F Gaming II stuck on POST
          by Twiesel
          Hey y'all,

I am currently working on an Asus ROG B450-F Gaming II ATX Mainboard. The board is in very good condition (no missing components/scratches), but when I power it on using a Ryzen 3 1200 and one stick of DDR4, it gets stuck at 1,4A with none of the POST-LEDs lighting up.

I checked all voltages, which are present. The CPU gets slightly warm.

          What I did try:
          -Resetting CMOS
-Reflashing BIOS (manually and using the flashback tool)
-"cleaning" the socket with isopropyl alcohol
-using several sticks of DDR4 in every slot...

          Auriol weather station humidity sensor
          by otoluk
I have two Lidl LD6273 Auriol units with DCF77 radio for time update.
I really like the idea but the cheap moisture sensor(guess HR202L) inaccuracies make the device unreliable. Also not clear why indoor and outdoor unit sensors being same type doesn't match. For example I place both units on same table and indoor unit shows 23% humidity while outdoor sensor shows 39%. What I found out is that I get better readings if cleaning the solder points of sensor inside with isopropyl alcohol.
Looking for replacement sensor which I could solder in place of HR202L resistive sensor but need...

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
          by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...
