So I've never seen anything this bad before with the buffer IC's... Do you there might be any damage to the panel because of this?

Did you look at the ribbon cable that connects to that section for burnt traces or other problems??

Jesus send those pics to Samsung maybe they'll give you a free tv. Looks like the traces were used as wicks. How is the YMain ?

I found only one bad FET on the Y-main, 88N30W. I replaced and tried to power on the TV with only the Y-main and the bottom buffer. Sure enough the bottom half of the screen lit up. However I can't seem to access the menu or anything when pressing the buttons.. Not sure if its because it needs the upper buffer or its another problem.

Not sure why not having an upper buffer would affect remote functions ??

You actually get a pic on the lower half of the screen without the upper buffer. I thought that wasn't possible.

No picture but the screen is lit up only on the bottom half is what I meant.

The data often is chained from the top board through all its chips to the bottom board. Top board missing--no picture at all.

I showed this picture to some work colleagues involved in the safety testing/compliance division of our company. Our conclusion is this fault is an unsafe failure and it's somewhat worrying that Samsung allowed this to be released if it can fail in such a way.

I think my Westinghouse Darfon transformer failure was worse! Sucker burnt all the way through the board!

Its crazy to think how easy it is for one of these units to short and catch fire due to faulty safety precautions or just cutting corners.
