Hi everyone. I purchased a Samsung pn58b540s3fxza with sound but no pic. After getting it home I noticed there's a tiny crack in the screen. First question is will a plasma TV turn on and not throw an error code if the panels cracked? Second ?? Theres someone selling a pn58b650s1fxza for parts cheap here, are the panels the same? Is there a site to check or do I have to actually take the back off and check the sticker?

Re: any site to check panel compatibility?
1. It will almost never work with a crack. In the rare cases it does work, the picture will be severely compromised (see here: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNj...kVk0/$_57.JPG#)
2. There is no direct way to check compatibility. The one thing you have going for you is the 5 series and 6 series are both Full HD panels. However there may be differences in the driver boards and control logic, which will mean they will have to be swapped with it. A right hassle! The best you can do is Google the TV model numbers to get pictures of the boards and confirm. At the very least I expect the sustain boards to be different. The PSU may be identical.
Personally, I would not bother swapping the panels over, as for such a large screen it will be a very complex job. I would fix the other TV and regard this one as a loss or sell it for parts.Last edited by tom66; 08-16-2014, 03:42 PM.Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Re: any site to check panel compatibility?
Well, that is probably not going to be fixable by swapping over parts unless the boards are compatible, as I mentioned this is probably not going to be the case unfortunately. You would have to do a diagnosis and repair of the fault. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: any site to check panel compatibility?
I did something similar a while back.
A 42 Sony monitor plasma with the LG 42V7 chassis and a Matsui with the same chassis....
Panel itself was much the same. However the Sony used a different PSU so it was impossible to mount the PSU as was intended.
I did jury-rig the set up in the Matsui and gave a perfect picture with the 'new' Sony LG V7 panel, but further than that Ive not mounted/made a mount for the PSU....
Thinking of cutting a section of the metalwork from the original panel, mounting the PSU on that as all the mounts will then line-up then fixing that onto the Sony V7 panel.....
Ive already removed the mounting-studs from the Sony PSU to the ally panel rear....
Time to get me angle-grinder out!TELEFIX
