Defective LCD panel - generally unrepairable.
2012 D series Samsung is almost always bad panel. Avoid regardless, will probably die from bad panel a couple months later if it had a different fault.

Yep, I never buy any Samsung LED/LCD TV 40" or bigger now because of panel failure rate is too high.

Exactly the symptom expected of a bad panel. As to what on the panel is causing the problem, I do not know.

I seen something about using a freeze spray in the corners to figue out where its gone ? How much warranty to these tvs have is there a 6 year warranty on a screen?

                  Re: Samsung ue40d500

There is no warranty on the screen that is longer than the rest of the TV. (Panasonic used to warranty their plasma panels for 5 years, so you could get one replaced and only pay labour charge out of warranty. Panasonic could afford this because their panel failure rate was sub 1%. Samsung don't do this because they'd be out of business tomorrow!)

If you are the original owner and you have a receipt you can try using SoGA (sale of goods act) - this can take a lot of work (weeks & several letters/phonecalls) but it will usually succeed. Note - SoGA applies through the retailer only - not Samsung directly. So if bought from Currys, you have to apply through Currys.

You can try using the freeze spray but even if you find a tab failure, it will generally not be fixable. The earlier models usually were fixable, but this has changed with the development of "gate-in-panel" technology, where the panel gate driver is embedded in the LCD glass.
