Looks like the reflector is burned. It's not the worst as diah said. Will likely alter the picture a little bit

Yea I've replaced a few and tried the old bad diffuser shields. They don't look nice. Generally bright spots show up. I just don't even try anymore and save all my good sheets. This one he might get away with very minimal. Guess we will see.

I believe the black shadow was caused by a whole section of the light strip (towards the middle) being non-functional bcos of that single broken LED.
The location of the warped and burned diffuser/reflector is about 1 foot from the left edge. If you look at the display when an image is showing that corresponds to the hardly noticeable bright spots seen in that location.

The rest of the diffuser/reflector looks perfect. Here's an example of the right side which is how most of the rest of the diffuser/reflector looks. I believe the unit was used in 24/7 picture mode over the years which
has a very low brightness setting. And very little TV watching. This may explain why the damage is as little as it is after all these years.

The replacement backlights have been ordered and should arrive early next week.

Happy to report that this TV is back up and running with minimal visual blemishes or artifacts.
First pic is in darkness while the TV was in ART MODE (where the backlights turned to the lowest setting).
This is where you see the worst of it at the bottom. In a lit room you can hardly see anything.
Doubly true when the TV is out of Art Mode ... nothing noticeable in the light or in the dark.
Thank you guys for your help! Feels good to get it right this time!

Go to YouTube and type screen test. There's a video about 4 minutes. Click that and take a pic of white screen and red/blue (if you can) so we can see the alterations little more clear.

Figured it wasn't going to be perfect but since it wasn't horribly burnt though it wasn't going to be ridiculous. Nice well done

I honestly can't even tell, so looks like diffuser was good enough. I'm sure you can see it but it looks great to me
