Samsung UN32D4003BD display has black line

Hi, long story short, about 2 weeks ago there was a blackout in my neighborhood, then when i powered on the TV, it showed some strange thin purple/green lines at the top of the display, after 2-3 hours of use those thin lines became really visible and the top part of the display became white.

took it to a workshop for diagnose and the guy told me there's no fix for it, that i should look for a broken one and replace the whole display unit cause the "flex lights" (thats the word he used) are broken, so i've just took it apart and i can see the back panel completely lit, from top to bottom completely white light so at least i know the LED panel is working fine.

    Questions are:

Could this be a problem with the logic board or the power supply, and could it be fixed just by replacing one or both of them? cause ive found a cheap one, exact same model with a broken display i could use for parts.

Could this be a problem with the LCD controller board and maybe thats what the guy was refering to? cause that board has a ribbon cable that goes directly into the LCD display. attached some images, my Tv and some other ive found on another thread.

I would think its a tab-bond issue by the look of it....

Well, it only has one ribbon, right at the bottom of the panel and carefully wiggling the ribbon doesnt make any difference, however, i noticed that the ribbon gets extremely hot, is this normal? i couldnt put my finger over the center of it for more than 3 seconds.

      What else should i test?

There is a chip "glued" to the ribbon tab, just before it disappears into the screen itself, that's probably shorted...
plz wait for someone with more knowledge to chime in to confirm or defuse my statement...

well, i let the Tv untouched and ujnplugged for about 3 weeks, this morning i did just a test, and to my surprise, it looks "fine", however, after 10-15 minutes, neon coloured lines starts to appear again in the same area.

Does this mean it's just a bad capacitor that, after been completely discharged makes the Tv look fine? any ideas before it goes into the trash?

            Bad panel, tab bond fault.
May or may not be fixable.
Seems every D-series Samsung TV suffers from chronic panel failure issues. DON'T BUY SAMSUNG!!

correct me if im wrong but, if it looks fine for 20 minutes, then its not a bad panel isnt it? ive checked the tab bond, gently wigling to see if theres any change on the image but nothing happens.

BUT--You did say that you cannot keep your finger on the tab-chip didnt you?

Sounds to me that chip is dying, and cannot be replaced--Its part of the tab, which is part of the panel.

Yes, it is a panel fault in my opinion.

Some people can fix them by shimming them. For some panels, this lasts years and years with no problems. For the vast majority of Samsung panels it lasts a couple of months tops.

There are also chips inside the panel now (called "Gate in Panel" technology) which also can fail. Not even a tab bond shim will help you there!

I sound angry about Samsung panels? I gave my parents a Samsung LE40A656 that had bad caps. Just got a ring up, half the panel has lines all over it on bright scenes. Bad panel...! It seems more or less every Samsung TV has the eventual fate of panel death. (obvious every component eventually fails but panels on Samsung TVs die quicker than the rest.)

yes, but i used a sock to apply pressure on the tab bond.

Yes, if pressure works, they can be held in place which can fix them "permanently" - the fix holds for some panels but not for many Samsung panels.

I would add some Aluminum shim on top of the IC, for better cooling.

                              ill try this, thanks.

Also... whats the chance for this issue to be caused by some blown capacitor? i don't see any particularly damaged but still...

Basically zero chance, these models are not known to have capacitor issues. (That would be too easy for new Samsungs!)

Well, after a long hiatus, im back on my last attempt at fixing this tv... asked a local guy for his opinion, and after 2 days he's positive on the buffer board to be fried, so, is a matter of either replace the shorted IC or replace thw whole board... any idea on where exactly is the buffer board on this model? ill attach a pic, i just can't see where is it supoposed to be, im looking for any chip with a heatsink on top but i may be wrong.

I'm always surprised at these "TV guy" comments. How do they stay in business when decent engineers have had to give up? In my mind the more honest you are the worse off you become.

I agree with Tom about Samsung TV's, yet everyone seems to rave about them, that's what you get for flooding the market and having the brand in your face all the time, add to that they do seem to make good smartphones and tablets. I very much doubt any amount of pressure applied will provide a lasting fix (if any at all)

LG panels seem better quality to me though tab bond problems afflict all makes, just some more than others it seems.
