Panasonic TH50PX500U Scrolling red/green horizontal lines

Hello everyone. I've been scouring the internet trying to fix my trusty 50" Panasonic plasma TV (manufactured in 2005). I know it's old and not worth much money, but after perusing the internet on how to freecycle it, I found someone who really pleaded for people to fix them; otherwise, there was a high likelihood it will end up in landfill.

Attached are pictures of the symptoms. At first, all the internal menus started bit smearing vertically (see IMG_0628). That was tolerable, but eventually, red/green horizontal lines appeared, scrolling up the screen (IMG_0629). Eventually, the lines worsened to the point where I couldn't tolerate it anymore.

After researching (this forum and other websites), I bought upper and lower Y buffer boards and swapped them out. That didn't work, so I bought a Y-SUS board and swapped it out. At this point, I could do the same with the Z-SUS board, but given my track record, I'm not sure if it's worth the expense.

Any advice appreciated. I am very close to sending it to the recycling center.

No that's a main board problem. Probably a faulty BGA connection on the main IC. Try a can of freeze spray on the main board ics and see if the problem dissappears..This board is the one with all the connections going into it.

Hi for all of you.
I have a problem with my Panasonic TX-P42S20E. On 576i and 1080i There is a half vision on panel. Up side is ok but, down side is black or coloured. When i change the aspect ratio, problem is not solved. But when i change to 1080p or 720p, all panel is correctly working.
Some servives tells its a main board problem, but i downloaded the service manual of my model, it tells this problem can be because of some cards failure.(SC,SS,SS2,A,C1,C2 boards) Please let me know you lived a problem like this and how you solved. If you want i can send a photo

I think as soon as you can start your own thread, do so and upload pictures of the varying displays rather than randomly putting this in 2 separate unrelated TV model posts. Also may be worth while going into service menu and run through the test patterns and see waht happens there. Sounds like an unusual problem, not something I can recall reading about.

Does sound like it could be A board.

I think as soon as you can start your own thread, do so and upload pictures of the varying displays rather than randomly putting this in 2 separate unrelated TV model posts. Also may be worth while going into service menu and run through the test patterns and see waht happens there. Sounds like an unusual problem, not something I can recall reading about.

can you get into service menu? If so try the mirror function, option 02 which is a vertical flip. If all that mess at the bottom goes to the top that would be good enough to confirm A board.

I got the service menu and it says there is no failure. And shows everything is ok. But in service manual, it tells A board failure. But i ll try to find the mirror function. I'll inform you what happens. Thanks a lot.

So you're saying you got into service menu and did the flip and it went to the top?

Pity you did not post a picture, would be a good example for someone to follow although this all should be in a separate thread. No one is going to find this unless they do a search.


For the main board, it will have a TNPHxxxx number and then there is also a 2 letter suffix code which will either be 2 letters stamped on the card or a legend with some jumpers above it to decode what it is.

Some clear shots top and bottom and we may be able to decipher it for you. A boards can be difficult to get used.

Normally offical warranty is down but i had gotten 3 years extra warranty by authorized distributor. Panasonic doesnt give extra warranty. Now i 'm waiting for service, tomorrow they will come, and it will be taken away. And they will send it to Panasonic Turkey Main Service.

Warranty procedure is different than other country conditions.

ok, well then there's nothing for us to solve since they should simply fix it for free assuming they can get the board still.

I would not mention you entered service mode just in case it voids the warranty.
