what is df2, df3 board?

I have sony kdl-46w3000 and im wondering what the df2, and df3 boards are? they are in the middle of power supply and inverters, do they power up the inverters?

Backlight inverters for the display - they hook into the ballast boards.

Tom why I'm asking is because this tv is a dark picture and I'm trying to figure out why? Also the colors are kinda washed out. So I'm wondering could the tcon be playing the picture of it being dark? So I ordered a new tcon being the colors are washed out looking. But was wondering about the df boards also?
