    42hl196 need help please read.

So I think I fudged up my power supply on my 42hl196. I was replacing one of the reg. One of the 3 common ones you replace. It's the one that has 3 in front and 3 prongs in back. Anyway. I'm getting a power protection light cause I think I burnt the pads where you solder them and they make contact to the board. Is there anything I can possibly do to fix this. Cause I can't find one to buy and their expensive as crap

The bottom one on the right side of the 5 is the one cause I couldn't get solder to stick to it. It wanted to stay on my iron.

Solder not sticking to the board should be a "STOP!" moment. You are probably doing it wrong.

You ALWAYS, ALWAYS apply solder to the component lead then heat up the component lead. Never apply it to the iron except to tin and clean the iron (do not drag solder from iron to lead.) If this does not work your iron is not powerful enough or has poor regulation & you need to get a better one.

Clean up all of that solder and check for pad damage. If there is none you probably just have a cold solder joint or six... I really hope you did not intend on returning/selling that item with that soldering because that is going to fail very quickly if it ever did work. Remember to cut the leads off... a £1.99 eBay sidecutter / right angle cutter will do the job fine.

Some flux cleaner / IPA may also be worthwhile but not critical.

yea that is the worst solder job i have ever done. I have had this tv for a while and it was one of the first solder jobs i have done. What if there is pad damage. Because I remember when I was doing it and scraping some of the burn marks off the pad came up on i think just that one. what can i do if the pad is damaged or gone.

if there is damge you would need to track where it goes and put a jumper lead in, or scracth back to the copper trace and solder to that.
remove all the old solder, clean it up and then you will see if there is a problem

The best you can do is scrape back the green soldermask exposing the internal (orange) copper layer, then solder to that.

                    Toshiba 42HL196 No HDMI?
                    by jackclements
                    Hello,
I have replaced the psu on this Toshiba 42HL196 twice. I have no HDMI or tuner. The component and composite inputs work though. I had a spare seine but it just gives me 3 red blinks so it's either a faulty seine or needs programming. It would seem it's the seine board. Ideas?

9th Gen Dell Optiplex Micro PC motherboard repair: Short Circuit?
                    by Geeker007
Hi All, I have a 9th Gen Dell Optiplex micro PC motherboard which doesn't power on. When I connect the motherboard with power adapter, it goes into safe mode and turns off. So from info I have gathered online, it looks like there is a short circuit on the motherboard. So can you guys help me with figuring out the issue?

I am new to electronics repair, so my queries could be naive but I am ready to learn.

So I have a multimeter and a solder with me. But I can try to get a variable voltage power supply with a thermal camera as well. From what I seen online, best way is...

Crest Smart Home Single Power Adaptor SHSPM1 (rebadged Tuya device) - bad cap causing failure, how to repair
                    by mrdevil
                    Hi all,

Wanted to share this as I couldn't find anything on the internet about this problem, so pulled one apart and found the problem myself. Years ago I bought approx 20 or so Crest Smart Home Single Power Adapter smart switches - small 240v Tuya-compatible (rebranded) smart switch devices with power monitoring, which Big W had on sale for half price. Paid $7.50 each for these, and they've been incredibly useful for turning things on and off remotely... and monitoring how much power each device uses.

However, after about 12 months, I had a number of these stop working...

                    Micro Momentary Push Switch?
                    by Natob82
Great to be here! I'm a newbie here trying to find a "micro", momentary push switch to repair a Sony "clamshell" video walkman. This micro switch has long since discontinued by Sony, however I hope there are third-party switches of the same size and functionality that I might be able to source to play the same role. The purpose of this switch is to tell the video walkman that the user has activated the mechanical tape eject button, turning that physical action into an electronic signal that tells the tape transport mechanism to open so one can load or eject a video tape. I...

Toshiba 42HL196 flashing blue light / powers off <solved>
                    by agarn3t
I have a Toshiba Regza 42HL196 that would power on for about 15 seconds and then turn itself off. Once off the BLUE light would flash slowly. I could turn it on again but it would only stay on for about 15 seconds then turn off again. I replaced q880 strw6765 however that did not solve the problem. I then found a blown 56k resistor at R8111 next to the large capacitor on the power supply board. I replaced it and the TV works fine now. I would suggest checking for blown ( open ) resistors at R8110, R8111, R8112, R8113, R8114 as they are in series.
