Original fault? Did you take the panel apart? Backlight layers might need reseating/repositioning.

I have a Vizio VO370M in which I replaced the main board.
It is showing a similar problem and I'm tempted to take apart the screen.
There seems to be a fair amount of discoloration on the metal on the back of the set where the boards are mounted.
I'm just wondering if it could be that the previous owner was a heavy smoker and the residue found it way between the layers? The tv doesn't seem to smell like smoke.
If I get ambitious this weekend I might take the screen apart and see if there are deposits on the plastic films.

The old ones and nicotine stained ones Ive seen the screen image on a B/W film are faded and tinged with yellow over the whole screen.
--I had a case of the backlight bulbs showing more yellow than they should have, as they had aged badly.
The sides were only slightly worse than the middle on that one....

You'll see it straight away if this is the case after the TFT has been lifted.

Only proper cure is to replace the backlight with an unfaded/stained one, although a good clean with metal-polish will remove a lot of crud.

Make sure you keep the diffuser-films exactly in order--And correctly face-up, right way round too!
