    Samsung PS50A457P

This tv has vertical lines running down the screen i was under the impression horizontal lines are a failining panel as i've had previously on a plasma of my own until it got smashed

so is vertical lines still a bad panel or is it a tcon or buffer issue?

I've only ever seen one or 2 lines in a screen but this has several

More often than not it will be panel, chips embedded on the bottom ribbons fail so non-repairable.

I have had it once on a 2007 panasonic, single line, was the panel, tried all the reseating, board swapping etc. no change.

rare but sometimes I've read it was a bad connection but I myself would not consider any TV as a repair project if it had that display.

    that's my opinion anyway.

ALL vertical lines are bad panel, MOST horizontal lines are bad panel.
This is a bad panel shockingly common with these models.

Why on earth would you replace a Series 6 premium FHD Samsung plasma with a bargain basement Series 4 720p Samsung?
If you want a decent TV to replace look for PZ70, 80 made in 42",46" and 50", all FHD with easy fixes.

I know the main board is worth a bit, but the other boards aren't in much demand. £40 to £50 odd for main board.
PZ70/PZ80 Panny aren't thin but they do have IMO one of the best pictures for a TV.

                  Re: Samsung PS50A457P

PZ70 - one bad fet on SC, 7 blinks but can also be bad panel so don't pay much for one
PZ80 - have 10 blink or 2 blink - PSU fault easy fix in most cases

I'd part it out. won't get much for the whole unit.

                    thanks tom

out of interest how much would a new panel be if I knew where to look?

expensive i'm guessing with it being a 3d tv too

not worth it, easily £800 to £900.

ahh if you would of said £200 i would of been

i only paid £100 for it last year with a big black bar along the top which turned out to be a loose tab, which was fixed just by reseating it

suppose i'll have to be more careful in future

How'd a battery break the screen, are they really that fragile? My PZ80 has a 1/8" sheet of glass in front of the internal plasma panel. You could break that glass and have it replaced for about £50.

basically I'd thrown a toy of the kids a battery came out and bounced up and hit the screen now i get sound and just blackness on turning on you can see the screen powering up as the black changes colour.

At first it wasn't noticable at all (the crack) until i looked closer, it doesn't feel like it's the outside glass or whatever it is as the crack doesn't have any feel to it from the outside so i'm assuming it's the actual plasma panel underneath

Have to say i felt like crying when it happened and still do haha

got a SHARP Aquos LC40LE831 in it's place from upstairs in the mean time, but 40 inches just doesn't compare nevermind the other features i've lost

If the screen is glowing and not buzzing are you sure the panel is bad? It probably IS bad, but I've never heard of a cracked plasma panel glowing.

about 5-8 seconds into the video you see a flash on screen, thats about all it does you can see some of the screen when it happens but it's for a split second if that
