panel swap. Sony 52 to samsung

Thought I would just share this. I just got done with a panel swap from one of my part sets. Samsung ln52a550p3fxza had the bad tab Bond burned through the plastic bezel if you remember seeing my previous post.

Well I just had a friend gave me a half parted out Sony KDL-52XBR3 and it had hey good panel of course the tab bonds and the tcon were completely different.
I had to do a bit of grinding to clear one of the tab bonds from the metal frame on the black housing, as the screw if inserted for the metal frame will hit the tab bond, but I swapped the XBR's panel into the Samsung with the XBR's tcon and it works excellent!

I would have just used the XBR's housing but the screw mounts and exerything about it just wont fit the Samsung..

Note: the XBR was from 2006 and is 1080p with 120hz. The Samsung is July 2008, and is also 1080p with 120hz. The LVDS matched up and I decided to bite my lip and just try it. And amazingly works excellent...

Now I just need a back cover and a base shand mount for the Samsung sadly I think I disposed of them..

Am I to assume after trying this that there are a varity of panels as long as same manufacturer and same frequency and resolution, and of course if the LVDS cable matches, there is a success rate?

I created "another" Frankenstein.. LOL

Only if they also have compatible format type, if you get datasheet you can check.

Just got.another ln52a550 repaired. And put it up against the ln52a550 with the xbr screen. The xbr panel in this tv looks way better than the standard panel that they put in this TV. Everything is crisp and better clarity and almost looks like the pixels are closer together. Of course I had to use exp XBR tcon board along with the panel swap. Is it possible that this panel is a better build than the standard Samsung panel?

XBR S-LCD panels (were) are made by Samsung and Sony partnership so are semi custom for Sony, perhaps that is why. Could be different panel tech like IPS vs VA panel.

Very true. I think. Lol.
Now onto a swap in for.a.42 inch LG Phillips panel I have laying around. And it's too bad no other manufacturers use the 60 inch sharp quattron panel. I have one of those as well. Gutted lc-60le810un.
