Insignia NS-LCD37 2 sec to black

When powered on the TV flashes something then the screen goes dark. The power light stays on. I can press the menu button and see it by shining a flash light at the screen.

I have read through the other threads which points to possibly a bad transformer on the inverter board.

In the other threads it says to set the multimeter on 2000 ohm. I tried that and my meter showed a 1 on all test points.
I changed it to 200k ohm and all but T7 measured 2.2. The top of T7 S1 to S2 measured 47.5 so I'm thinking it is bad.

My questions are did I test it right?
and what do I replace it with?
The first 5 digits on top of the transformers are 6008B. Would any other models interchange?

    thanks

The lighting in my house is really bad at night so my pics may not be good enough.
I marked a red line on 1 of the pics showing the test points of where I got a reading of 47.5 on my meter.

      thanks

So basically, all are showing 2.2K (on the 200K scale), but one of them shows as 47.5K. If that is the case, it is bad. Those inverter transformers has two high voltage windings.
Yours are probably like this one:
        http://s807.photobucket.com/user/bud...tml?sort=3&o=2
We can verify if you can get the numbers as printed on top of the transformer.

          transformer number is 6008B725033 (GP)

The cheapest I have found on ebay is a used 6010B for $10. In the info on the ad it says its suppose to be backwards compatible with 6009B and 6008B but I wanted to ask here to make sure.
His test figures say its 2.17k between S1 and S2 and .3 between P1 and P2.

does that sound like it should work?

          thanks

I will be afraid to trust the sub info.
            LCDPARTS.NET has the 6009
            http://lcdparts.net/TransformerDetai...ProductID=3269

They seem to have all the same readings but I will be afraid to try the sub.

I went ahead and ordered the one from eBay. Trying to keep costs at a minimum (although sometimes cheap costs more in the long run).

I will report back if it works.

              thanks again

Re: Insignia NS-LCD37 2 sec to black

In anticipation for getting my replacement transformer in the mail tomorrow I thought I would get a head start by removing the bad transformer.

As my luck would have it (more likely my lack of skill and tools) I lifted some pads when removing the old transformer.
I wasn't sure where the best place to post was so I made a thread in Equipment Usage, Soldering, Techniques, and Reviews section of the forum. As well as posting here since the inverter board I am working on goes to this TV.

Do you think its possible as a novice to repair these lifted pads or would I be better off eating the $10 I spent on a replacement transformer and just buying a used inverter board off ebay?

                thanks and merry Christmas.

It depends on how bad the traces/pads are damaged, most of the time it can be repaired using small gauge bare wires. Any pictures of the damages?

Try cleaning off the flux and brighter pictures so I can see the traces.
Shopjimmy has the board for about $53. Since we have nothing to loose, we can try repairing the traces.
As you can see, the only two connections will be hard to repair, the others has direct connection to large traces.

Re: Insignia NS-LCD37 2 sec to black

I tried cleaning the best I could. Hopefully the picture comes out good.
Anyways the upper left and lower left pads are lifted but still attached 2 their traces. The lower right pad is gone completely with only the trace sticking up.
The upper right and bottom middle pads are ok.

I also managed to melt a few of the little solder points together below the middle right pin on the bottom. I should be able to clean that up though.

The one that's probably going to be the hardest to repair is the lower right where just the trace is sticking up.

                        thanks

Does the sticking up trace go to R86 basically you just continuity test then it may be better to put in a wire instead of the trace

yep it goes to R86. So I would need to attach a small wire to the lower right leg and the other end to 1 of the solder points of R86? R86 is tiny..I need a magnifying glass ugh!

the other pads that are lifted should be alright since they're still attached to their traces?

                            thanks

Whatever you think is easist/safest - if its easier to get at try soldering the wire to the end of the trace first and save soldering to the R as a backup plan.

Good news, so the new transformer fixed the original problem?
Funny on how asking simple question about fixing the board, the argument started instead, instead of giving the guide on how to try which is how you will learn. I fixed worst problem than this. People that say it cannot be done without trying is always the one that is blocking the other people that are doing it.
Apply electronic grade Silicone RTV on the wires and the transformer legs.

PS. When I wrote the 2 seconds guide, the only manual ranging multimeter I had/have is 2000 count and it was written before troubleshooting TVs became the #1 topic on this forum. As such, the 2000 ohm is probably too low for many of the newer TVs now.

Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.
