I was wondering whether a 300w limiter on the mains input would help to protect Vsus shorts (on the 42" sets it seems to blow the P board FETs and slow-blow fuse when the SC IGBT's go)... but then found your tip here, which sounds more promising. Guess you have to cut a Vsus lead and fix afterwards?
Do the sets work normally with that small voltage drop, if no shorts?

And found that the SD board had multiple pins shorted out on two connectors. I ordered a new SD board (part # TXNSD1REUU), but I want to check if the SC board is bad as well. I tried to find a service or troubleshooting manual that may go over this process but was not successful. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to do a resistance test to see if I should replace the SC board as well?

    Thank you!
Just measure the fets near the buffer boards. They are in the same area as DAF30. ( top side of the sc board ).
You probably only have a shorted buffer board.

    Hi

I also get the screws from Farnell - 249-4525 (approx. 6.5p per screw if ordering 100+)

    Cheers

    Hi

I get my IGBT devices direct from Panasonic - only about 80p each.
    (p+p £3.50 per order)

    Regards

There is a big demand here for Panasonic plasma's. Strange "nobody" in the USA likes plasma's anymore?

They all go for the cheap wallmart tv's?

I know right! Then I wouldn't have 5 Panasonic plasmas stacked up in my house waiting on repairs if I want to do them or not or just part them out because I don't think I'll sell them for a profit.

What Panasonic should have done, Along with other manufactures would be to have each floating ground tied together in some way so if one lost connection the other one would make up for the lost connection. That essentially would save a lot of boards from ill certain doom.

Have you noticed this thing actually has fans? FOUR of them? Plus the metal frame is the most massive one I have ever seen. No wonder the thing is heavy like hell! How can that actually undergo any mechanical changes? Besides, ALL of the screws of all boards were so screwed. That's clearly from the factory as it is definitelly not stressed equally on every place.

Your desktop displays are not mounted against a back of a plasma display panel that is of self emmissive technology. Couple that with the fact that the sustain boards undergo a tremendous heating and cooling cycle, Against another sheet of metal that also goes under heating and cooling cycles at infrequent times, So yes the screws no matter what you put in there will back off eventually. No amount of thread locking compound is going to fix that problem.

When they build an engine for a car that uses a cast iron block and aluminum heads the bolts at hold the head down no matter what eventually loosen up and blow a head gasket. This is due to Infrequent and inefficient heat cycles between the block and the head because the head being made of aluminum gets hotter much faster than a block does. Similar situation

Excuse me, but that does look like BS. I've had way too many ordinary desktop displays in my hands, and no matter what type of screws it had, I never found any so loose as most of them here. Why this TV should be any different and the problem should be in the screws themselves?

The OEM screws get loose over time so you should get locking screws instead:

Probably a cost cutting measure to use the cheaper non locking screws or not hiring good QA people at Mexican plant. Blame the accountants/executives lol

Removed the board, it was arcing almost under each single screw to the point the solder oxidised and turned black. All three of the power FETs are shorted, so which kit or components should I grab to ensure everything else whch may also be bad is OK now?

    Panasonic plasma TX-P42ST50 - 6 blinks
    by jm1234
    Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults...

Panasonic Plasma TH-50PZ85U No screen No blinks on red power light
    by Alicat
    Hello,

Stopped by this site trying to fix my parents Panasonic Plasma TV.

    Model number is TH-50PZ85U

Power comes on and the red power light stays on solid.

Did a few checks like hold the power button on for 60 seconds, hold the - Volume while holding the menu button, no luck, still@ blank grey screen as the screen lights up very vague.

I also hear a few clicks.

I also think my parents said there was a thunderstorm and the TV failed after that.

Section 6 in the service manual talks about power and no screen,...

    Panasonic TC-P50S1 shorted TXNSC1EDUU (TNPA4782AB) SC Board
    by Yanleb
Hi every one. I just want to share the successful repair of my shorted Panasonic TNPA4782AB SC board.

I don't usually do it but so many parts were shorted that I decided to buy the ShopJimmy repair kit instead of sourcing each components individually. Here is the list of components the kit contained, with a remark indicating if I needed that part or not :

    D608, good
    D618 RF101L4S, good (See warning 1 below)
    D619 RF101L4S, good (See warning 1 below)
    D865 RF101L4S, shorted (See warning 1 below)

    Panasonic Plasma ST50 TC-P55ST50 P55ST50 8 blinks
    by nick31
    Hello,
My Oct 2012 panny plasma quit working yesterday.
It was on when it happened. It let out a bit of burned plastic/circuit board smell. I was not able to find any burned parts though.
Now it produces 8 blinks. According to the repair manual, that points to SS/SS2 board(s).
I completed the steps in the guide: unplugged SS33, the TV turned on with a black screen, no blinking codes. Then I checked the continuity between pins 1 and 2 of the connectors SS52, SS54-SS57. The continuity is ok in all of them. Guide suggests to replace SS/SS2 boards so I placed an order...

Panasonic P58V11B 8 and 12 blinks error "fix"
    by Biruslapio
Bought this TV used not working, panel flashed briefly on power up and it was blinking 8 times, a quick look on SS board revealed a common fault on the 3uF 250V capacitors, C201 to C205 (C1620X in the service manual), the solder joints were all cracked, C201 and C205 pins were darkened and some sparking had occurred on them, C201 was split open and clearly overheated in its last hours, replaced that one and resoldered the others, 8 blinks fixed.

Also the previous owner broke the antenna connector by taking the TV out of the wall mount forgetting to unplug it, I desoldered the tuner...
