    Insignia NS-P42Q-10A Buffer Failure

Picked this tv up the other day for 40$ -it presented with no picture. A quick look at shop jimmy showed lots of boards available. After opening it found a blown chip on the buffer, after disconnecting the buffer I get a good heartbeat on the control board. However mine uses a different buffer/y combo than is easily available. My question for Tom or anyone else handy on these plasma sets can I desolder the bad chip and test the set without it? Im hoping I can verify my ysus is good as they are going for 50 on ebay and that would cover the cost of my replacement y and buffer.
    Im planning on ordering
    BN96-12170A Y-Main
    BN96-12171A Y-Buffer

    my current boards are
    BN96-09751A Y-Main
    BN96-09752A Y Buffer

One problem you may have is that the other boards although listed for your model, the PLASMA panel number is different and tne next model.

Will the mounting holes line up for the board and will the logic ctrl need to be changed too?

May require more research, as for removal of the buffer IC, I have seen someone on youtube remove a shorted chip on a 2007/08 series Samsung to get it fired up.

You'd want to recheck the buffer after removal for any more shorts.

    I've never tried this.

I was going to check that before I ordered them, The control board connects to the buffer on the newer style and to the ysus on mine. I knew I would need a longer ribbon. How do I figure out what control logic is used on each? Go figure I check before I buy it to make sure there are parts available and it turns out they don't fit. I guess worst case I could part it out and still make money I just hate to see a perfect screen go to waste.

I removed the offending chip and the tv stays on now with random sparklies on the screen. However the rest of the screen only lights up for half a second, so I think my ysus has issues as well. Mine is panel S42AX-YB07, the parts I want to use seem to be for panel S42AX-YB08. I found a longer ribbon on another tv, mostly wondering if I need to replace the control board as well to make it work?
current control board is lj41-05903A r1.2
Edit -just spent a bit more time looking at differences and it looks like the vertical buffers are different as well, guess I will have to shell out 100$ for the right boards or I will end up replacing most of the guts in this tv.
