Samsung ps42c450b1 with no picture just sound. When you press standby button you get the melody sound that the tv is coming on but you only get sound no picture any idea's please.

pretty sure that's the model that blows the x-main and there's a firmware update for it.

most opinions are it's best to replace y & x mains together providing the buffer boards are not shorted.

I did all 3 boards on mine because the x-main killed the ymain and I was unsure about the buffers. My buffer was ok,

yes but the tv powers on because you can here the melody sound as the tv powers up.I do not think you would get the melody with the y and z sus boards connect if their was a short on the y or z boards its like the tv on but no picture and it stays on

A short on Vs on these will not cause sound to stop working. AFAIK there is no repair kit yet so you must replace the Y- and X-main.
Can't remember if it applies to these models but the control board LED might blink a 5 sec 2 sec code (5 on 2 off) indicating a DRV RESET fault.
