I would get him to resolder all the pins in case its not that one that is the problem- better / cheaper? than having to take it back again.

That's a good point. I'll at least ask him to inspect.

There are 18 pins very close to each other. Somewhat afraid of messing it up.

Re: Samsung LED TV driving me crazy

So, I had the connector removed and resoldered and the problem didn't go away.

At this point, I also don't think it's the cable because I flipped the cable, which means all the pins are using different wires than before, and the effect is the same.

        Here's the story:

When I push on the connector OR on the edge of the board just above or below the connector, the board works. But I don't think the connector itself is bad, nor the cable.

I'm guessing there's something physically wrong with the board, like some sort of connection that is just barely broken but which goes back together when pushing on the board, and it's been the case all along with this board because the symptoms are exactly the same with two different main boards. (The malfunctioning board is the power board.)

If you have any suggestions what to check on the board, please let me know!

I think the problem may be nearly microscopic and beyond me ability to find or fix...

I think the people I bought the board from will give me a refund if I can't figure this out.

        Thanks again for any suggestions!

          I THINK I FIXED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took the PS board off and started slightly bending it in the area where I had been pushing and causing it to turn on.

And wouldn't you know it, when bending it I saw a piece of solder move!!!

There was a leg of a small transformer whose solder joint to the board had broken off.

The transformer is thick enough that when I pushed on the board, the body of the transformer pressed against the chassis, and the angle of the transformer leg moved so that it was touching the circuit board.

I got my soldering iron out, resoldered the leg to the board, plugged the thing back together, and it immediately came on.

I haven't yet tested whether the tuner/main works, but I assume it does because the TV properly says "check signal cable" and also the menu functions work, which I'd think are also on the main board.

          What an unbelievable hair-pulling experience.

Now I need to see if my original main board works, and if so, I'll sell the replacement main board which I might never have needed on eBay.

Thanks so much to all of you for your help.

I live in the foothills west of Boulder, at about 8300 feet. We had a lightning season for the ages up here. Rarely have I been frightened by electrical storms, but I was more than once this year with lightning striking repeatedly for 30-60 minutes at a time very close to the house -- in an area which has already had several devastating forest fires in recent years.

Nice fix, I see a lot of problems with cold solder joints on the transformers on many Samsung models. I was about to mention it but I didn't think the newer LED types would have the same problem too :p
