Pioneer PDP-428XD less half image

Hi to all.

I´de like some help in this issue.

I have a plasma Pioneer with only less than half screen working.

I´ve checked:

Scan IC´s all ok not shorted.

All voltages Y and X boards ok.

Recheck Cables to Digital board.

At first customer claims no image 3 times blinking red.

After rechecking flat cables the TV power on but half image.

you can see very near an horizontal line black with 1 inche lower image, and the rest of the panel off.

I´ve attached some pictures. One with dvd image and one with menu.

Check for bad solder connections on some smd capacitors on y sustain board near buffer output connections I've had thus happen before.

Get a wooden dowel and lightly press on those smd components while tv is on and see if the screen comes back

Hi to all

Found the problem, it´s on Scan IC board, there is no short-circuit but one of the IC´s is damage.


Will order one Ic and post results.

With your help off course, looking more closelly with the lent i could see the damage IC.
Already ordered and will post again, to tell you the result.

Thanks for this thread. I have the exact same tv as my personal tv, its a great tv very high contrast, great colours and decent black level. I hope that it never breaks down like that and blows any of the buffer Ics as they are VERY hard to resolder. Shame is that pioneer bonded the Y buffer to the panel so if an ic ever fails you have no choice but to replace it or trash the set.
