I'm thinking of buying a broken LG that has a black vertical bar on the upper half of the screen. I've been reading alot about this issue being the panel itself (not repairable) while sometimes it could be a bad connection on the ribbon. What do you think? Fixable or just for parts? Thanks, you make my plasma fixing hobby/addiction fun.

Re: LG Plasma Black Vertical Bar on Upper Half of Screen
I would not bother. It looks like an early generation 42" LG plasma. Not even HD. Poor picture quality, too. Plasma has come a long way since that model!
It is probably a cold joint on a resistor on the flat flex for that part of the panel. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: LG Plasma Black Vertical Bar on Upper Half of Screen
Really? I wouldn't have guessed. Thanks for saving me the trouble, my record is bad enough.
Edit: Wow, you were right, Tom. It was a 42PZ90...EDTV not HDTV. I almost drove an hour and a half and spent $30 on a TV I wouldn't even want if it was working and free. Thanks, again.Last edited by Robb; 10-08-2013, 01:45 PM.Comment

by Zelek11My Panasonic Plasma model P55VT50 has started displaying "interference" on just the left half of the screen only (left when facing the screen). Sometimes it's concentrated in about the first 30 seconds after startup, then disappears. Other times it's fine at startup and then randomly does it later on. When it flashes the interference it's very quick and doesn't stay on the screen unless it flashes repeatedly in a row.
This image is a screen shot from a video I took. This is an example of the interference at its worst. Often the interference is much smaller...10-14-2022, 04:54 PM -
by ChrissygizmoHello everyone, I’ve just been given a Samsung UE55JU6800K smart tv as it had white spots on the screen due to the led lenses falling off. After refitting them & putting the tv back together I thought it was a nice easy fix for a free bedroom tv , then I tried it before screwing the back into place. I realised that the right side of the screen was darker than the other side, I removed the screen again as I thought the backlights had failed but they are fine.
I put the screen back in place & turned it back on . The screen seemed to be ok again but different screens on the same... -
by Stanley1843Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

by Ryan.manHello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!
My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.
This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen... -
by ItalianSatHello Everybody,
I have a 40 inch LCD SAMSUNG LE40A656A1CXXE. Its problem is that there are Vertical Lines on Right Half of The Screen.
Interestingly enough, when I move my mouse (in the case if connected to a PC) or when I am watching the TV, lines also move. At first appearance, I had thought that the problem might arose from loose vertical ribbons (COF), but when I opened up the TV for further investigations, I realized that the problem cannot be solved by touching them.
Moreover, I detached the T-CON board for a new round of investigation. I personally... - Loading...
