6 year old 50" Maxent Plasma

I can't get to the model number right now. Its too heavy for me to pull off the wall by myself and my wife can't help me. I can't find anything that resembles what this is doing so I'll just upload pictures. I have never been inside anything like this. I guess I really would like to know if it is worth calling someone who could fix it or if I should get a new one. This monitor has been connected to a media center PC since new. The power button is broke and we lost the remote so it stays on all the time. The computer stays on all the time too and allows the plasma to go blank after 10 minutes. Thanks in advance for your advice.

To me, it looks like it's inverting, well more like altering, the colors on half the screen. Blue seems affected the most. While I don't have a clue exactly what's causing it, I can make an educated guess that the problem lies in whatever board or chip processes the video.

Really the TV would need to be taken down and opened up for us to get a better idea.

Those pics were from yesterday. This morning turning it on, it is flickering. It isn't like the whole screen flashes at once all the time. Seems like random places. Sometimes shooting all the way across screen sometimes not. Sometimes top half, other times just a corner. Wow! it just flickered again and then the screen shows perfect picture.

      Alas, it didn't last.

I understand. It will need to come off the wall. I wouldn't be able to get help to get it off the wall till later.

Just considering if it might cost even $200 to fix this might it be better to spend $600 and have a new monitor?

My guess is it could be a problem with the x-buffer(s)/driver(s), however I'm no expert.

Another user on here really knows a lot about plasma TVs, I am sure he will chime in sometime soon!

Gave this away to someone with more time on their hands than I have. Referred him to this site. Thanks.

A man who leaves a plasma always on for a broken on/off switch wasting a lot of power and letting to turn a very simple fault to an unfixable fault for me is an idiot.

Indeed. A blank 6 year old 50" plasma would consume around 100~150W idle, from my measurements of similar displays. You would have spent enough to purchase a new 50" 720p plasma TV ($399) after 26,600 hours, or about 3 years, in electricity costs alone. Let alone, say, the $10 to buy a remote?

i'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but i just have to laugh at the logic behind some peoples ideas or lack of.

I didn't post here to be ridiculed. I understand I made a mistake in letting that switch go. Didn't need anybody here to display their own immaturity with such responses. Problem solved though, no thanks to anybody here.

It's not immature to show that leaving your plasma on continously to save buying a $10 (or thereabouts) remote is pointless, as you will have spent $400 in just about 3 years.

My intent wasn't to ridicule you, i have a bit exaggerated, but i have always in mind the waste of energy, tv and media always warn us about that, too much people leaves lamps on for some stupid reason... and after, there exists multi AC socket with switch..

6 year old 50" Maxent Plasma, first problem

I have a MAXENT that has just started having this problem. When I power it on, it has random flickers around the screen for about 30 seconds, then it calms down. On random channels at random intervals, the right side of the screen will flash what appears to be an inverted or modified image, but not on the left side. The unit is also getting surprisingly warm. IT is worth the trouble to try to fix it, or does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this?

This is not my image, but is exactly what is happening. I would guess about 5 or 6 times every 45 minutes.
                          Thanks.

You probably have a logic board issue. This is the board behind all the other boards with the white ribbons going to the panel itself. Its malfunctioning.

Note that it could also be the mainboard as well as maxents have inherent issues with the mainboards. Try heating the mainboard up. Especially around the main processor with the green heat sync on it. And the surrounding capacitors.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?
