    LG 42PC1D Faulty YSUS Diode

I purchased a faulty LG 42PC1D in an effort to teach myself more about electronics.

The power supply had 9 bad caps which have been replaced and I also found a blown fuse on the YSUS. I have removed the IPM and have been trying to check some components as other threads have suggested the IPM might not be the only problem. In the picture attached there are 4x2001N3D Fast recovery Diodes that I have been checking. Am I checking these correctly?

I check what I believe is a forward voltage drop between pins 3 and 2, and also between pins 3 and 1. On the 3 diodes marked with a pink square the readings are all virtually the same with a voltage drop of 0.326v, but when I test the diode with the pins I have marked (1,2 and 3) I get a voltage drop of 0.338v between pins 3 and 2 , and also 3 and 1. I would have assumed this reading was acceptable(if it was the only diode of this type on the board), but because I have 3 more of the same diode to compare to I have noticed a difference even though it is only 0.012v difference. I then checked continuity from pins 1 and 2 to GND(marked with a 4 in the attached pic) and found they both had continuity. I am assuming this is the probable cause of the blown fuse?

Are my measurements and assumption correct? I'm curious as like I said early I would have measured the (suspect faulty) diode with a forward voltage drop of 0.338 and assumed it was ok and not checked anything else.

Can anyone suggest an equivalent to replace this diode with?

Any guidance is very much appreciated.

You're most likely going to have to remove the diodes from the board to test them. I don't think you'll find issues with these diodes, though. The IPMs alone can cause the fuses to blow.

      Hi Nipz
I just got done working on a board very similar to yours last week. (Also replaced 9 3300uf 10v capacitors on the power supply)

Check positive lead on pin 1 negative lead on pin 3 (my reading was .392)
Check positive lead on pin 2 negative lead on pin 3 (my reading was .392)
Readings should be higher if taken off the board

Check positive lead on pin 3 negative lead on pin 1 (should be OL)
Check positive lead on pin 3 negative lead on pin 1 (should be OL)

Diode D21 (the one you have numbered) pins 1 and 2 are connected to the ground plane. So you will have continuity.

Can you post the numbers that are on the diodes? I was using diodes 20LC30

Also check resistor R36 to ground, vs to ground, your fuse connectors to ground and check where you have continuity between your pins where the ipm was installed. Eg sus_out to vs should not have continuity

I had a few funky things going on when testing since I had a bad D21 diode. I attached a picture where I had continuity after I removed the bad diode, before that I had continuity to ground at a lot of places I shouldn't.

capkid helped me out as well

        Wat is this component?
        by AllElectronicsRepairs
        Hi Everyone!

The SMD code is AB5IB. It's a SOT-23 component (or similar).

I tried to decode this component on every site I could find (SMD Code Book, etc.) with no success.
Does anybody know what this component is? I have 2 of them on the board, and both give the same readings. I used DMM, as well as PEAK Atlas DCA75 Pro Advanced Semiconductor Component Analyser.

Atlas says that NO COMPONENT IS DETECTED (both of them). Usually, it can detect ALL types of transistors, including Darlingtons, MOSFET, BJT, JFET, etc., Volt Regs, Diodes, etc. If...

Philips 46PFL8007K/12 - Picuture flickers on half of the screen
        by Capacitorial
        Hello guys.

I recently got a TV that has the following problems:
        1. Sometimes it has to be turned on and off a few times, to boot up. Sometimes it starts from the first try
        2. When it is running normally, the right side of the screen flickers. Sometimes it is just a square of transparent white maybe a 1/3 of the right half (top right)
        3. The flicker is also sometimes a square that is filled with lines
        4. I noticed that when the TV brightness is set to max, it flickers less. I think the Standard setting is the worst where it comes more frequent
        5. When it runs a few minutes it gets better,

Hello, I am looking for help to replace a damaged diode. The tristar was replaced and a diode was damaged in the process. I have a picture of the diode but dont have an exact donor. I mostly have macbooks for donors and only a few ipad and iphone boards. Diode part number: DSF01S30SCAP
Im not sure where to find the ipad board number. Anybody have an idea where else this diode is used on other boards? Thanks....

        TV backlight zener diode
        by unimatrix93
Hello everyone, I'm repairing an LG TV backlight and I noticed some strange behavior when I touching the backlight strip with a missing Zener diode.

So I replaced the leds on the strips and they seemingly working fine, but soon as I touch the strip which has a missing Zener diode the whole backlight turns off for a few seconds and then turns back on.

Is this caused by the missing diode? If so what kind of zener diode should I use to replace it?.

The led strips has 9 6V leds.
