Pioneer PDP-5020FD plasma STBY light 8 flash

    Hello everyone!

    OLD!!! Pioneer Plasma PDP-5020FD

Plug in power, presented with red standby light.
Power putton pressed, unit attempts to power on, momentarily shows the blue "on" light, then goes into power-down mode with 8 red flashes.

Service manual says 8 red flash is caused by:

    Code:
    8 - ADRS[LIST][*]ADDRESS Assy - VADR under voltage protection[*]ADDRESS Assy - Connector disconnect - Connector [AD1][AD2][*]DIGITAL Assy - Connector disconnect - Connector [D13] to [D20][*]Y DRIVE Assy - Connector disconnect - Connector [Y2][Y5][Y6][*]X DRIVE Assy - Connector disconnect - Connector [X2][X3][X4][*]POWER SUPPLY Unit - Connector disconnect - Connector [P1][P2][/LIST]
I've unplugged and reseated all the connectors mentioned, but the unit still does the same thing. How would I go about diagnosing VADR if it only clicks on for a moment?

AHA, I think I'm making sense of it now - I found another page

The checkpoints of VADR under voltage are:

    Address resonance block
    Q1711,Q1721,Q1731,Q1741,Q1911,Q1921,Q1931,D1711,D1721,D1731,D1741,D1911,D1921,D1931

    TCP
    TCP (IC1651,IC1661,IC1671,IC1681,IC1851,IC1861,IC1871)
*when the TCP is damaged, replace the panel

I'll see about locating those components, but I've still no clue what I'm testing

VADR can be tested on the power supply, it should be around 60 to 70V for these sets.

Re: Pioneer PDP-5020FD plasma STBY light 8 flash

Service guide says between 72 and 78V. I havent tried testing yet, but how do I power up the PSU without the set triggering a shut down? All I have is a DMM, and I dont know if it will register fast enough

EDIT: i'm getting 75.0 VDC out of VADR before the set shuts down

VSUS is at 206VDC - Acceptable range is 200-210VDC

If you are getting good VADR it may be mis-detecting 8 blink fault, because one of the connection places has a cracked joint or similar? Check all voltage along there, see if you can trace a 75V output.

I dont understand where the set detects voltage - should I look specifically at the PSU or would it sense for VADR all the way out at the address buffers?

There are 8 wire pairs that go to the address buffers - I'm getting 75V on all the buffers themselves

The 75V is probably sensed on the power supply. Look for a signal like VADR_ERR or similar. Does the SM mention any error signal going to the main or digital boards?

I'm having a hard time making sense, but it appears that "PD Detection" is done at the buffer level. On the image I posted, an error code "8" is detected along the corresponding route.

AD1 on each address buffer is a ribbon cable with about 10 conductors. Each go from the address buffer to the "digital" board where the error light is.

Hmm, without knowing the pin out of that connector it will be tricky to locate the fault. I haven't seen any documentation with the pin out yet.

I also have a Pioneer 507XDA with the same problem. 8 red flashes. Nice tv so it is a pity.

On power up I get a thin vertical line before it goes into protection mode after half a second.
Had a look at the tcps at the bottom near the line and cannot see any burnout on the ribbon module. (no trap switch in mine)

Cant get a service manual for my model but simialr model 507XD says 'short circuiting of VADR' or 'TCP damaged' Given the thin line I am more inclined to think it is a damaged TCP, but can see no evidence.

Anyone have any luck fixing this type of problem before or is it definitely a band panel (is short circuit in the panel possible?) and only good for chucking?

Thin line would be definitely pointing towards defective TCP, a defective TCP may as well be the same as a bad panel as they aren't replaceable.

Yes, these TCP's and even the x-drive buffers are integrated into the panel.
Pic of the dual thin lines I get next to two TCP's that have no visual damage.

What I did was swap the ribbon cable from the left to the right hand side driver board and tried to fire it up but there was no change which makes me think it is a panel defect or the lines should have appeared on the opposite side of the screen? Is that sound logic?

I think it is safe to assume that the main, SMPS and other non-integrated driver boards are ok? If that is the case I will strip them out and offer them on Ebay for someone else to revive their TV with. Excellent panel this, I have never seen better, it is a real shame it cannot be rescued.

Tower4 - do you get a picture for half a second before shutdown? Do you have similar lines on your panel?

No nothing on the screen or fans just the blue light then a click then the red standby 8 blinking I have noticed on the power supply board AXY1200 that on two of the large blue colored caps the blue coating is not coming over the tip of the cap like the others do could these two be bad? not sure how to test them but even pictures I,ve seen of boards for sell these caps have the blue coatinig up some on the tip. I'm on to something? Thanks for any help

Normally a bad capacitor would be bulged at the top, but unlikely in a Pioneer due better components? post a pic if you can.

You can get a tester for caps on Ebay, but you have to desolder them to test. Not only capacitance is important, but low ESR is too (normally under 1 ohm from what I have read).

If your screen doesn't light up and red led blinking 8 times then as a noob I would be inclined to think the issue is with the powersupply. tomm66 knows much more than I do, I am at fumbling stage in tv repair.

Thanks pnb, most all of the caps on the ps board have what is a white something like hard chalking around or on half of the cap all caps on the other boards don,t have this stuff on them. Does this stuff sound normal or are they blown? I can get a replacement board online for under 100 buck.

are from the Digital Address Board and the Buffer Boards. I have included the pictures, should I resolder these points or are they unsoldered intentionally? Any help would be much appreciated.

                                          Thank you

Pioneer Pro-FHD1 Elite. Failure to power on.

I'm new to this awesome forum, and have been reading like mad, but have not seen the answer to my challenge.

We bought this Panasonic plasma monitor 16 years ago and it has never been serviced, so all parts are original, and the unit has never malfunctioned -- until about a month ago. The system fails to power on. At first (a month ago) this happened rarely. We learned to unplug for a few minutes to drain the caps, then re-plug, and the monitor would start normally. Now, we plug-in, turn on the main power switch, and the...

Pioneer PL-X9 motor speed control wobble

I'm starting to re-cap a Pioneer PL-X9 turntable, specifically the motor control board, because although everything tests out OK according to the service manual, the speed wavers slightly despite the quartz lock light remaining on. So, I've decided to re-cap that board since it's the cheapest next step...

Pioneer's passive component naming convention is clear to me. For example, CSZA R22M 35 is tantalum, radial leads, 0.22uF, 20%, 35V.

BUT there are two capacitors on the board which have actual Pioneer part numbers: PCL-042. I can tell they are 0.1uF, 16V but don't...

[Help Needed] Yatour YT-M06 (Pioneer 1) – Firmware or Schematic Request
                                          by EduCabral
                                          Hi everyone,

I'm currently working on reviving a Yatour YT-M06 CD Changer Emulator module for use with a Pioneer 1 interface (specifically with a DEH-P5950IB head unit).

While the unit is recognized as a CD changer, none of the USB, SD, or AUX features respond, which leads me to believe the firmware may be corrupted or incompatible.

                                          🔧 Details:
                                          • Model: YT-M06
                                          • Interface: Pioneer 1
                                          • MCU: Fujitsu MB89F202
                                          • Goal: Find a valid .bin firmware file or memory dump from a working unit

I'm happy to attempt flashing, analyzing memory dumps, or doing hardware-level...
