Panasonic Viera TH50PZ85U Buzzing (No Picture)

    Hello,

I have a Panasonic Viera TH50PZ85U that I inherited from a client that asked me to fix it. I told him that I don't have enough experience with television repair to offer him any real guarantee of anything, and such I would not feel comfortable charging him for a repair. Upon this news, he simply gave it to me.

I tell you that, because I want you to know that I have zero knowledge of the backstory. I do know that he recently moved and it worked before the move.

What I have tried / Noticed

There is an INTENSE buzzing that SEEMS to be coming from the bottom right corner (from the back) of the unit. It's a strange, two-toned electric hum that varies in intensity. I have also noted that it appears to die down momentarily if you change inputs using the back panel, but immediately drones again once the input has been selected.

I note that the power light comes on red and stays lit.
Removing the back panel, I note that both SC and SS board LED are lit green.
Removing the A5 connector does nothing for the issue and does not display the white screen.
I have tightened all screws and verified all connectors are seated, even going so far as to reseat several of them.

My gut feeling at this point is that it is in fact a failed panel, and no further troubleshooting will help, it is simply a land-fill piece.

I would sincerely appreciate anyone elses input on this, and am more than willing to provide whatever you would like.

Intense buzzing is very, very likely to be a cracked plasma panel. This would not be a repairable issue.

That is the EXACT sound this unit is making. Ah well, easy come, easy go.

Thank you for your prompt reply

At the very least, the parts are worth a fair bit -- probably $100 or so if you are prepared to strip it out yourself, and $20 to $50 to a private seller doing so themselves. Putting the parts on the market instead of scrapping the set will help improve parts availability (since manufacturers rarely sell them to the public.)

See above, OP agreed it did.

Is it safe to assume the diagnostic lights are telling the truth? No really foolproof way to test all of these parts. I'm no stranger to selling things as-is on ebay and the like if that's what you recommend at this stage.

I would sell them cheap as untested, but since you hear that buzzing, it's more than likely everything is OK.
