        UPDATE:

was to buy this for $50.00. he sent me an email that 3 guys called and would buy it for $70.00. He said I could have it for original price $70 since I was first to call about the TV. I said ok, and I would pick it up this am.

I called him this am and didn't receive a call back. I just checked my email and he replied to my earlier email confirming the buy at $70. he said he sold the TV to someone for $90.00, 20 more tha he was asking. he said the guy offered him $90 because the $70 dollar price was too low.

        pretty shady don't you think?

thanks to everyone, and I'll keep looking for anotehr deal.

That's pretty low. You'll find another one...maybe even a free one (my 46" Samsung was a free TV). I've had similar situations, but not quite that bad. The one thing I was taught a long time ago when buying and selling, and maybe you already know, is to complete transactions quickly. In reference to Craigslist, I always pick up items the same day and within a short time window of contacting a seller. Otherwise, the chance of the seller flaking on their commitment increases greatly. This is also true when selling items, where buyers flake.

If someone calls me up and says "someone else" is coming along, I just tell them I am no longer interested. In the three out of four times I've had such happen, they call back 10 minutes later at the same price, so I think most people are lying.

Always more out there to fix.

I had one situation, where I'm fairly certain the seller wasn't lying, but I agree that most people are lying. If the price is within a range I'd established for myself, I might go higher. Otherwise, I've declined and received a call or e-mail back on a couple occasions.

                everyone,

thanks for the comments. I agree capkid, find something and pull the trigger on it. what may have happened is someone who watches this forum may have been monitoring the post. found my location and did a craigslist search for that particular model number. I know I was the first caller.... he later agreed to a $50 dollar price to get rid of it. I'll have to be more careful about what I ask!
                It's always buyer beware.

Thanks to all. I'll keep looking....

I doubt that, more likely they just found it on craigslist and offered more... Sometimes you have to act fast.

Yeah, I agree. Since there's now so much info on the Internet about how to repair these TVs, people jump on them right away when they see them for sale this cheap.

I try to pick up TVs the same day or next...

My experience with buyers in the very least is about 90% of ones who "will come over" in two days time will never show up, and most sellers won't hold an item for that long. Max I'll wait is one day unless I've got exceptional demand, in which case I'll sell it to whoever shows first.

I only sell ("sold" - not doing much anymore) to people who are picking up the same day. Even then, it's amazing how many people I've had that say they're on their way and never show. I've delivered a few TVs to people who are close by to move them faster; some of them haven't had vehicles that can accommodate a larger TV. I also only respond the next day to people who contact me late at night. A lot of these night owls are flaky people.

Glad I'm not just the only one! Like Tom said 90% of the people who asked to come in a another day have always just flaked and start ignoring replies the next day. I just learn to never give my address until they are ready to come.. I prefer when they call to come at that moment, even if it's a couple of hours later half the time they don't show... I do find that delivery is the best option, once they give you the address the deal is usually set.

I had one guy tell me, "I'll be there by 5:00". After not showing, he then called me at 6:30: "I had to go home first after work to change. I can be there by 8:00". He didn't show at 8:00. He called me the next day, and I ignored his call. Weirdos.

Do you consider that it was just competition (other people on cl who buys/resells) that are messing with you? Lol I've always been cautious about that.

No, I don't think it was competition. I never gave any indication in my ads that I wasn't the original owner. I don't doubt that he was messing with me, though. I had another guy that would e-mail me about a TV I had for sale for about a week:

Weirdo: "Is it still available? I can pick it up today"
Me: "Yes, it's still available. When can you pick it up?"
Weirdo: "I'm sorry, is it still available? I can come tonight."
Me: "Yes. Here's my number. Can you call me?"
                                Weirdo: "Ok."
Same weirdo a couple days later: "Hey, is your TV still available?"

I stopped answering, in part because it sold. LOL.

I'm not sure about sellers motives... Tomm 66 had a good suggestion about not agreeing to the increased price and let it be. perhaps they would call back. howeever, he must have sold it for the higher price. perhaps not too ethical, but it's a buyer beware market and the seller can do what he wants. I'll use Tom66's suggestion if it happens again.

                                  thanks

I had one just like this. Actually is a LN46C530, but figure they're not too different in design. Was looking at getting a new TV, but figured there's nothing to lose at this point. The TV part worked as I could see snow on the screen if lit up with a flash light, but the backlight was dark. No voltage (AC) from the inverter output which is actually 2 parallel connected wires to the bulb driver board worked against ground. Got a ~140v AC off the switching transistors, but 0 out of the driver transformers. Turns out there's a cap that is in series to the ground leg of the transformers. It is not an electrolytic, but rather one of those 0.47uf high volt Mylar caps we all see in many supplies. This one is encased in a plastic shell that was bulging and showed signs of melting. Removed it and the sealing epoxy under it was cracked and melted Mylar and aluminum had oozed out and is now solid. It was labeled 2W and I assume that was the rating of how much power it could dissipate at the rated drive. I had one of 0.56uf at 250v that was about twice the physical size and put it in. Works fine and is sitting on the floor for a burn in test before it goes back on the wall. Figured I'd post for the benefit of the forum searchers.

                                      Jeffp,

nice. I was hoping from the feedback that this one may have been a good candidate to repair. it was only three years old and looked no one tried to fix it. I probably would have given it to my daughter and son-in-law as they just bought a house and it would have been nice in their finished basement hanging on the wall.

wonderful forum and great people who give freely to help anyone in need. my admiration to all of you experts!
