    Samsung 46 LCD 1080P LNC46C610

I have a chance to purchase from the owner this Samsung 46 LCD 1080P LNC46C610 for a very reasonable price. the owner says, "Powers on but no picture or sound. No clicking sound with power on. Tv is in excellent cosmetic shape, No scratches on LCD Screen, overall has been well taken care of until it stopped working last week. Selling As".

unit may be 3years old. is it worth a shot to attempt a repair on this one?

    Thanks everyone.

If it just stopped working and it's as the seller describes (shockingly, sellers aren't always honest ), it's probably worth a shot. It's most likely either a power supply or main board issue.

I'd lean towards the power supply, but it's not always easy to tell until you crack it open. Also, what are the indicators that it's powering on? Standby light?

          capkid,

I don't know about the light indicators. he just said it powers on. I'll send an email and see if I can get a more specific symptom description.

          thanks,

Samsung LCDs keep the LED on in standby and turn it off while working, for reference. They should also make a startup chime when first powered on, if the feature hasn't been disabled.

If it continues to try to power cycle once the button is pressed with repeated clicking then I'm guessing caps on the power supply based on the older samsungs I've been fixing.

These TVs don't really have capacitor issues, a lot more common is main board and power board.

                    Tom66 and fellow contributors,

                    UPDATE: More Info

I received email back from the seller as follows:

Sorry I'm at work, just noticed your mail. To answer your questions. The power light is on and stays on while plugged in. It's a red light doesn't flash. We where watching it while it happened, just turned off no popping sounds, no smell of smoke. It did happen during that week we had those thunder storms. Unit was plugged into a surge protector, co axial from cable tv wasn't grounded though. Cable box stopped working too. Computer was hooked up as well to the computer but that works fine.

do you think this model is worth an effort to repair?

                    thanks

Seemingly, at worst, you're looking at roughly $100 for a replacement main board. The power supply most likely can be repaired if there's a fault.

interesting capkid. it's not a very old set and I'm leaning on grabbing it. appreciate any other comments as to go or no go.

These are market leading LCDs. I have the 2007 LE40A656 at the parents house and for an LCD, it looks very nice. That one had bad caps, but that's very rare now. Not turning on from standby is most likely a main board fault.

                            Tom66 and company,

owner said , "Doesn't make a startup sound. I disabled that feature anyway ".
I can get this for a really cheap price. saw Tom66's last post about this model and it makes me want to give it a shot.

                            Thanks,

Are you buying to keep or resell? I personally wouldn't go over $50 in either case, since new TVs are so cheap now. There's always another repairable TV on Craigslist. Does he have an asking price or any indication of a ballpark number?

The last working 46" Samsung of this breed that I sold was a 2008 or 2009 model (can't remember) that went for $250...and that was about 6 months ago.

Edit: If you want to have the main board repaired, ModusLink PTS repaired my main board for $70, including shipping back to me. I'm not sure what the price would be for this TV if they do in fact repair that particular main board. That's a much better route than buying a used board that could fail in an unknown period of time, as many of these Samsungs have bad main boards.

$50 is the price. I believe these were out in 2010. If I can repair it, I'll keep it or give it to one of my children. it would fit very nicely in my bedroom! hopefully, it will be someting not too expensive. my main TV is a 51" hitachi ultravision I bought in 2003. a genuine rear projection dinosaur. still runs great after all these years.

                                    thanks,

                                        capkid and company,

picking it up today. anyone have the service manual for this TV? I checked all my sources and even the link on the badcaps forum, but didn't find anything. I also checked the web with no luck. I have a house full of company from fla until the end of the month. I'll try and get started on the TV early part of august.

                                        thanks very much everyone.
