The tear is often very hard to see. It's hidden on the other side sometimes. For me, I had to use a magnifying glass to see it. It will be on the top ribbon cable most likely.
i will look at it when I get it back tomorrow. i guess if its bad I can always part out the rest of the good components. if the ribbon isn't damaged is there anything else I should worry about that could have happened or would it be a good idea to replace the board and see what happens? I can get a top Y buffer for 35 dollars online. Thanks again for your help!

If you put a new top y-buffer into a set with a bad panel the new buffer will quickly blow, so I wouldn't advise it until you're sure it's not got a bad panel. You'd just be throwing away money.

Yes this is an inherent problem with this design. One of the tabs hold the black plastic frame rubs the ribbon cable eventually from hot and cold cycles and there's a hole in the cable you can't see it with the naked eye but it's there and its most likely on the very top cable. What you should try to do is if you did get a new buffer board leave the very top cable unplugged and then try to power the TV up. If it stays on with just the top cable unplugged it is surely the problem. That is of course if you want to try to sink more money into the set which I believe is probably the issue anyway and I have yet to find a replacement cable for my set to try to glue a new cable back on with a special type of adhesive tape

typically what I have found is with these IC chips that LG is using for the panel is that they dont like a missing row to the panel. It's all or nothing.
Meaning if the IC cannot display every single horizontal line at the same time it will short out. If it doesn't display any lines but its receiving power its not a problem.

I want to thank you guys for saving me some money. I saw the ribbon and as you suspected, it is trash... so I parted it out and sent the panel to meet plasma jesus.

Funny thing is I bought a plasma tv from a resale shop on the cheap. its a 7 year old 50 inch LG plasma. I hooked my laptop to it Via HDMI and whenever I watch a video from my collection I get this occasional (about every 20 to 60 seconds give or take) faint but noticable "wave" that scrolls horizontally down the screen. TV input and whenever I am just usuing the internet doesn't cause an issue.

Only when I watch video on windows media. I had to do some toying with the system to get the resolution right from the intel graphics on the laptop to look right on the TV. I wonder if it isn't something to do with that.

Or maybe I should have just bought a CRT television and went back to the stone age...

I think Freak might be interested in any ribbons on the panel if you can remove them easily.

Take screws off edge of panel inside. The front glass lifts off and the ribbons are exposed. They're just glued on

tnrmanring: I'm having this same exact issue with my 50PA6500. The top buffer chip on the upper Y buffer tested as shorted so I'm trying to understand where the damage might be on that ribbon cable. As far as I can tell my ribbon looks fine. Where was the damage you saw and how obvious was it? Did you have to remove the front plastic bezel?

Yes if you still have the panel I would be interested in a few ribbons from it. There glued on. Use heat from like a hair dryer and after peeling away the silicone like glue you can heat up the ribbon and slowly peel it away from the panel.
This would be neat to see if this is repairable or not.

Does anyone have the Y buffer boards for this TV? Or know a good place to check? I can't seem to find them anywhere. Cheers.

                          by TR103
                          Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
                          - sound and backlight, but no picture
                          - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                          - it keeps rebooting
                          - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                          - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                          - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

                          - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered...

                          by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and

Samsung UE60KU6079 backlight okay mainboard responsive, no picture, no sound
                          by Ierwin
                          Hello everyone,
Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged...

Samsung UN70NU6900F no picture and no sound
                          by jchang
                          Hi all

I was just given a Samsung TV with the issue. I read various threads and videos and attempted the ribbon tape method to gain an image, but no luck.

                          Symptom:
                          No picture no sound.
When I plug in the power cord, Backlight LED turns on for a half second and then turns off. The red LED next to the power button located center bottom flashes 2 or 3 times. When the power button is pressed after, it does the same thing.
                          No sound at all.

                          What I tried:
                          1. I tried unplugging the left or right ribbon...

so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!! what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!

i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...
