    Re: Vizio VP50 Smoked

I am a very happy camper! The Vizio VP50 is up and running. The runs to the two 10 ohm 1W resistors had burned off. Since the board itself had been damaged and removing the resistors also removed the remaining plate-through in the pcb, I secured the new resistors with gold jewler's beads on each side. New wire runs were constructed using one of the resistor leads at each end (the resistors are in parallel). One to the diode D5600 and the other to an area of pcb run that was not burned. That, it turns out, was all that was needed to repair the Y-Main. I had determined that one or more of the chips on the top buffer was shorted. Member Chuckup was able to provide me with a matched set of Samsung y- buffer cards from a HP 50HD V5 which are an older series, but proved to work perfectly in my set.

All is well and the set is remounted (with the help of another friend!) When time permits I am planning to mount new smt ics on the bad buffer card so that I have a spare set, but as soldering surface mount components is not my forté, this may take some time.
Thank you to all who commented in this forum!

Here is a parts placement video I made after the repair was complete.
